Washington Notary Public Application

Once you have downloaded the application, complete all sections according to the provided instructions.

Step 2: Order your $10,000 surety bond from Notary Rotary, Inc.

When you first apply and each time you renew your appointment, you must purchase a $10,000 surety bond from a company qualified to write surety bonds in the state of Washington. The surety bond must cover the four-year period of the notary public term. Your name on the surety bond should be identical to your name and your signature on the application form. You may order your surety bond from Notary Rotary, Inc. by clicking on the following link: Washington Notary Supplies

Choose Washington from the drop down menu and click the "Enter Store" button. Follow the onscreen instructions and your $10,000 notary bond will ship as soon as we are able to process it, usually the same day it is ordered. When your surety bond, from Notary Rotary, Inc., arrives you will need to make a copy to send with your application.

Step 3: Check the application and surety bond for accuracy and submit the application.

Look over the application and make sure the information is accurate and complete. When you are certain everything is correct and complete send the application, a copy of the surety bond, and a $30.00 check or money order made payable to "Washington State Treasurer" to the following address:

Department of Licensing
Notary Public Section
P. O. Box 9048
Olympia, WA 98507-9048

Once you have sent in your surety bond and application you will need to wait for the Department of Licensing to send your commission materials to you before moving to step 4.

Step 4: Order your official seal and any other supplies you may need from Notary Rotary, Inc.

Return to the store at Notary Rotary by clicking on the following link: Washington Notary Supplies

As you did when ordering your surety bond, choose Washington from the drop down menu and enter the store. Fill out the required information and place your order for an official Washington notary stamp and any other supplies you may need in the same manner that you purchased your official bond. Washington does not require notaries public to use a journal or book to record notarial acts performed, but we recommend such a journal as another tool to help you in your business. A Washington notary journal can provide records of your notarial acts, in case a notarial act is ever called into question. The State of Washington requires that you provide a copy of your commission certificate to the manufacturer of your seal/stamp; you will be given instructions on how and where to send your commission certificate copy at the beginning of the order process. As soon as we receive your order, and copy of your commission certificate, it will be processed and shipped, often the same day it is ordered. Once you receive your seal and supplies you will be ready to begin your duties as a notary public for the State of Washington.
