Posted by Ever/CA at 7/7/2007 1:18:00 AM | Hi, guys. For those who maintain a separate business checking account for two or more businesses (i.e. besides notary), did your bank allow you to have multiple names (i.e. the payee name on the checks that clients send you as payment) registered with the same account? And if so, did the names have to be officially registered with your city/county?
I recently changed my business registration with my city to "Olano Business Services" to cover other services. I just got a check from a title company made out to my former notary-exclusive business name. So, I'm wondering if I can open a business checking account with both my new official business name and other "aliases" that clients might come up with when paying me. Of course, I'll find out the answer tomorrow when I go to my local branch here (couldn't find anything on google) but I thought I'd kick this around tonight to see if anyone here knows the answer.
Thanks for any inputs. Ever

| | | | | Our own loan (Quicken) Posted by Ever/CA at 7/1/2007 8:31:00 PM | The other night, we had our signing for our own loan. It was going to be our first refinance as the borrower since I became a notary. So I was really looking forward to seeing how the notary would handle it.
It was a Quicken loan so we had the docs shipped to us. As soon as she opened the envelope containing the docs to be signed, she said "Go ahead" (signalling us to sign away), "I'll just catch up with you, guys". So, we signed as she filled out her journal. She would also fill out the notary certificate and stamp her seal right then there, while we were signing the other documents. Being an SA myself, I didn't mind it and actually kinda liked it since I knew we would be done in no time.
She did not explain a single document (and I'm guessing it's because she knew we should have read them in advance). I think that she should have at least asked us if we had some questions regarding the documents. For those who have signed Quicken loans before, how do you handle it?
She didn't seem like a newbie at all. In fact, she appeared to be a real pro. And I think she's doing it full time since she said she had been out the whole day doing the same thing.
I'd appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks, Ever

I was taught during my notary class regarding the ability of a California notary conducting business on federal property or tribal land that our jurisdiction ends once we enter the property.
For federal property (i.e.: military installations, court houses, etc.) that because there are notaries public generally speaking on the property the only way I could notarize something would be if the individual(s) come off the property.
For tribal land, if I were to receive permission from the tribal council or government I may be able to conduct business.
The 2007 state handbook does not indicate any restriction but I want to clarify this as a "newbie" notary.
Any comments?
