Whatever, I accept & meet the "borrowers". The man & woman come with the papers to be notarized. I ask who will be signinng documents & ask for the 2 forms of ID for everyone that will be signing. Meanwhile, I'm handed the document & there's someone else's name on it. I ask who that person is & I'm told it's some "aunt" in MS who "lost everything in Katrina" & he's supposed to sign for her.
Needless to say, I wasn't able to notarize on this one. The kicker, even more so, is that his so-called fiance that was with him was supposedly a North Carolina notary & "would have notarized but she left her notary stuff at home".
Was I mystery shopped? This is just way too stupid to be real... |
| | | | | Wierd verbiage -- help? Posted by MelissaCT at 9/13/2007 9:41:00 PM | MD title co, has the following in the notary block that has me stumped. This is on CT property, FWIW,
I Hereby Certify, that on this [date] before me, the subscriber, did personally appear [borrower name] by [blank], known to me or satisfactorily proven to be the persons whose names are set forth in the attached document and did further acknowledge that they exectued the foregoing document for the purposes therin contained.
This almost sounds like it's an AIF-type notarization, doesn't it? I know what I'm inclined to do with the [borrower name] by [blank] part, which is strike through the unnecessary wording, but I'm wondering if I'm overlooking soemthing that would actually make sense to put there.
Anyone ever see this format before? TIA |

| | | | | What would you do - *Accusigning* Posted by MelissaCT at 8/2/2007 10:05:00 PM | Received check for more than billing was for. Would cashing the check & issuing them a refund for overpayment be an option? Or, do I try to contact them & wait for a corrected check to be sent, then send back the incorrect one?
Feels like a trick to *still* avoid proper payment. It was only 2 invoices, nothing to get confused about in the amount due -- I even sent a statement with total amount due listed!
Am I being hosed? |
| | | | | Printer question -- searched, but not answered here Posted by MelissaCT at 8/2/2007 2:11:00 PM | at least not that I could find.
Does anyone know of a site where I can enter features of a printer that I'm looking for where the results will include multiple makes/models?
I know that I can go to HP.com or Dell.com, etc. & use their "wizard" to search for one of their models that matches the search terms, but is there a good generic site that does this?
Alternately, what I'm looking to replace is my AIO and laser printers with one machine that does it all. 33.6 fax, laser printing & copying >17pp min, pc faxing capability, flatbed scanner and ADF, dual-tray option is preferable, but I can live without that feature if need be.
TIA! |

| | | | | No matter how stressful signing can be Posted by MelissaCT at 7/31/2007 8:59:00 PM | it doesn't compare to working FT. Just venting here -- for every signing I've had with disfunctional borrowers, distressed houses, late docs, notary blamed for everything that could go wrong -- I am 100% happy that I can do this job & love it. At least I never have to go back to those places again.
My FT on the other hand, is quickly becoming a job. And a place I dread going to M-F. Short stoy-long: the compny I work for was bought out by another. Merging the systems is a nightmare. Not having the tools needed to perform the job is a disaster waiting to explode. I feel like Wakefield pitching his arm off & not getting any run support from the team.
Thanks for letting me vent -- I know my hubby is tired of hearing about it. I do count my lucky stars that I am able to utilize the tools available to me to do this job & that I can do it well. I love being a Notary! |
| | | | | Borrower not providing alternate numbers Posted by MelissaCT at 7/26/2007 12:21:00 PM | One very good reason for a borrower NOT to provide alternate numbers is the frustration I've experienced in my FT job -- telemarketers calling multiple times per day (6 times yesterday alone) for an employee. They've called again 3 times today -- AFTER being told not to call anymore & to remove this number from their lists.
The last guy to call here got an earfull from me & then proceeded to call back & ask for me by name trying to sell me on refinance!!
No wonder why 1) borrowers don't provide anything other than a cell or home number and 2) when you do call someone at a work number, the secretary chews your head off that they can't take personal calls at work...which is why I always call a home number first & leave a message rather than irritate their employer -- unless it is specifically requested that the contact be made at a work or cell number. |
| | | | | New Haven, CT city-issued IDs -- response from CT SOS Posted by MelissaCT at 7/26/2007 10:31:00 AM | I just received a response to my inquiry regarding these & their use as ID for notarizations.
At the moment we are awaiting an opinion from the Attorney General's office concerning the New Haven ID. Until then there is no official word on that documentation.
This was from a staff attorney. I will update here (just for search info & FYI) once a final response is received. |
| | | | | New Haven, CT issues illegal immigrants ID cards Posted by MelissaCT at 7/24/2007 9:32:00 PM | http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070724/ap_on_re_us/immigrants_id_cards
My initial reaction was as a Notary & accepting these "IDs". Then I remembered that under CT notary laws, a primary ID has to be issued by a STATE or Federal government -- so these city-issued ID's are not acceptable for notary purposes.
Just wanted a heads-up for those who may see these down the road. |

I just found this through an email I received & I receive nothing in return. I jsut ordered 250 business cards for 99 cents. Nothing fancy, just backup ones or very basic - just getting started type. Can't beat the price! |
| | | | | How to sign journal Posted by MelissaCT at 7/1/2007 1:04:00 PM | Msg # 197908 from JanetK/CA got me thinking.
Often, the way the ID is signed varies from the way the lender wants the documents signed. How do you request the signer to sign your journal -- To match ID signature or to match document signature? Ideally, the sigs should be one and the same, but we all know that we don't deal with ideal situations.
Theoretically, if ID signature doesn't match document signature and they sign document signature in your journal, there's no written proof that the person was ID'd properly. If they sign journal with ID signature, it at least records that the person who signed journal did appear in your presence THAT day at THAT time & journal recorded what documents were notarized. |
