Posted by Linda_H/FL at 1/14/2012 9:54:00 AM | I just got an e-mail from a company - and if I'm reading it correctly, all their contractors got it - that they sent the wrong 1099 out -
They sent 1099's to all their contractors regardless of amount paid (no biggie) BUT they sent out a 1099B instead of a 1099Misc. They say not to be concerned - when they send their 1096 in at end of February it will be reported as miscellaneous income. They claim most of their contractors are happy with this.
Now, I'm not a tax expert, but is this not a problem? Should this company not be sending out corrective 1099's? The 1099B is for Broker and Barter Exchanges - isn't this looked on differently by the IRS? When 1099's go out, duplicates are filed with the IRS - the IRS gets a copy of the 1099 sent to the contractor - won't the IRS be looking for this to be reported properly??
I know if it were me I'd not be satisfied and I'd be requesting a new 1099 from them. It's Miscellaneous income, not Broker and Barter exchange.
BTW, this doesn't affect me - I didn't do any closings for them in 2011, but the whole subject is just interesting to me and I'd like to hear about it.
Look forward to hearing from some of the tax people here. |
| | | | | I can't stand companies that use cell phones... Posted by Linda_H/FL at 12/21/2011 2:09:00 PM | You can't trace them back and find out who called...ugh
Just got a call from someone breaking up badly - all she says is "I have a refi for you tonight" ... no company name, nothing...and it's a cell phone...
<<mutter>> |
| | | | | Can't believe what my eyes are seeing Posted by Linda_H/FL at 12/15/2011 10:06:00 AM | Flipping through a file here in my office and run across an affidavit - notarized by notary how? Stamp appears on signature line - no signature. Under the line, in parenthesis, it states "Print, type or stamp commissioned name of notary or clerk" - apparently this notary thinks it means stamp ON the line, not UNDER it.. So sad the attorney who signed off on the certification of service didn't know any better..
Oy...good grief. |
| | | | | Okay..I think it would be a good idea for those companies Posted by Linda_H/FL at 10/5/2011 5:12:00 PM | who send jobs via blast e-mail to really invest some time into who they're sending it to? Call me silly - but I just got a job offer for a modification in Valdosta, GA...
Helloooo???
Yeesh. |
| | | | | Make me an offer I can't refuse Posted by Linda_H/FL at 9/17/2011 8:09:00 PM | e-mailed offer for Field inspection - 7 photos of property - they list 6 addresses needing it
DUE TOMORROW!!!
Pay: $3
Ugh |
| | | | | e-notaries.net Posted by Linda_H/FL at 9/5/2011 2:23:00 PM | Just received a blast e-mail for field inspections - they've contacted me before to do jobs, which I've declined. I thought the fee was bad before!! Now they're offering $3/inspection..and they go on to say "All inspectors must have a Blackberry or Palm Treo phone (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon) in order to complete orders with our system. No other phone is acceptable. We can provide agents with the phone for a fee that can be obtained from your payment remittance" -
At $3/inspections, I'd love to know what "remittance" they're going to deduct the fee from!!

| | | | | Help with profile setup please? Posted by Linda_H/FL at 8/14/2011 12:33:00 PM | How do you break down your profile "notes" section into paragraphs - I have one big long paragraph and I don't like it..want to break it up a bit..
Nothing I try is working and I'm too tired to figure it out... |
| | | | | I'm done....for now Posted by Linda_H/FL at 8/13/2011 12:11:00 PM | I accepted and started a full-time position at a sole-practitioner law firm on Thursday. One attorney, one sec'y/legal assistant (me) - last thing I wanted to do was get a J-O-B, and full-time no less in my close-to retirement years, but my husband and I have these silly habits - we like to eat on a regular basis and sleep peacefully at night knowing our bills are paid.
Phone has been silent for months now and this business is just too fickle for me. I've had feelers out and have interviewed at several jobs, including the CNA positions but nothing came of it - this one hit out of the blue - faxed resume at 9am, phone call at 9:30am, face-to-face at 2pm, hired! - start the next day!!
I say done for now because I'm keeping my commission and profiles (revised, naturally) just in case it doesn't work out. If the last two days are any indication, I think we're gonna be okay. I really enjoyed working this business, but the unpredictability, especially in my area, is just too much. The increase in business that everyone else is posting about? I'm not seeing any of it. I've not done one closing in August yet and only did 2 or 3 in all of July. Got two calls in the last couple days (of course!!) and those were the first for the month -
I'll still follow the forums as I enjoy them - just won't be around as much as I was - so keep things posted so I can keep up with the G, the B and the U!
Good luck to you all - may you all prosper...

| | | | | And this is why I don't push GN work Posted by Linda_H/FL at 8/6/2011 12:11:00 PM | ring ring..
Caller: "Hi....I have a time-sensitive document that needs to be notarized. My mother fell last night and I may have to take her to the hospital and I need to get this done."
Me: "Okay - where are you located?"
Caller: "Fort White (my town - very rural).."
Me: "Okay, where can I meet with her?"
Caller: "Well, she already signed it, I just need to get it notarized."
Me: "I understand, but she has to appear before me."
Caller: "Well, it says here "to you at your convenience" (must have been looking at my website).
Me: "Yes, I'll come to you - but she must be there."
Caller: "Well, I have a friend in Jacksonville who does all our paperwork and she'd do it without her being there, but..."
Me: "Well, I won't get too deep into that, but that's illegal. Anyway, yes I can help you...when would you like to get this done."
Caller: "First, how much would you charge, then we'll go from there.."
Me: "$25.00 total" (after pondering drop everything, immediate service and drive - again, very rural and remember, Momma fell so she's probably not up to going out) -
Caller: "I'll get back to you..."
Guess it's not so time-sensitive any more.
Good grief.
