O/T - Cost of duing business increases
Posted by TRG_wy at 9/12/2007 10:55:00 AM
I just ran across several receipts from 2005 and the cost of paper caught my attention. So, with a little time to kill I decided to pull out other receipts and do a cost comparisson between 2005 and 2007.

The biggies are:
Standard paper (case) increased 51.5%
Legal paper (case) increased 51.75%
New Toner cartridge up 39% (they do wear out)
Toner refill up 26%
Gas went up 85%

The average cost of doing business, just to keep even for necessities went up 50.65%. If my rates have not gone up that means that money is an unrecoverable expense and I am making much LESS now than I was back then. If I went back to say, 2000, I would probably be scared stiff because my rates have hardly changed at all.

My rates should be higher as a result and accepting these crazy lower fees the SS is tossing out are a big joke. I do refuse them BTW.

O/T Notary Seal for Hire - long and funny

Notary Seal for Hire

Professional signing agent with years of experience and a few thousand completed closings available for loan closings.

Due to requested fee reductions by signing services I can no longer afford to drive my personal vehicle to signings, afford to maintain a laser printer, both standard and legal size paper by the case or boxes of toner. I can no longer afford to maintain a dedicated fax line and associated machine or supplies for it (toner and paper). Nor can I maintain the cost of a high speed internet service to edoc receipt; or a fast new computer for that matter to handle all of the huge files. I only have a slow Window 98 computer with dial-up service now. Heck, I can't even afford to have a cell phone for business use anymore.

Hence, we are going the lowball route as follows.

All edocs must be delivered to the local Kinkos store for printing. Cost, $65.00 setup to receive files (and download necessary print drivers or Adobe Reader). $10.00 to print 200 page package (two sets) on legal size paper. Two binder clips for packages is $.30 cents. Another $10 fee for the salary of Kinko employee to perfrom tasks of document receipt, printing, collating, and bundling. Total for edocs: $85.30.

Oh yeah, how do I get to Kinkos when the documents are ready (two hours after scheduled appointment time)? Taxi of course. It is 15 miles from my office to borrowers via Kinkos store to pick up my documents. Taxi is $5.00 for pickup, $2.50 for first mile and $1.25 for each additional mile. Taxi fare is $26.25 (pay him $30.00 which included tip of course).

Finally made it to the appointment, late of course due to Kinkos; but anyway I made it. Good thing the borrowers are friendly and understanding couple. Get settled in now to take care of business. Complete 20 notarial acts for which I can legally charge $4.00 each - $80.00. Since I surely do not work for free because I am a seasoned professional and know what I am doing my time is worth money. As a an educated professional my time is $35.00 an hour easy. This closing alone takes two hours mininum from start to finish - so, $70.00 is my fee for time spent.

Now that I am done I need to get back to Kinkos for the required fax-backs and then back to the office. Since I can't afford to keep a cell phone anymore, I use the borrower's phone to call a taxi.

Taxi runs me by Kinkos on the way back to the office so I can fax back required documents. Kinkos charges me $5.00 to fax back 23 pages, good thing it was a toll free number! I finally arrive back at my office 15 miles later. I pay the taxi driver $40.00 this time, he charged me $5.00 to sit and wait while I faxed the required documents ($35.00 plus $5.00 tip). Good thing I could the leave the package at Kinkos for FedEx pickup.

OK - this is how much it cost to complete this signing:

Taxi from office to borrowers via Kinkos was $30.00
Kinkos fees for printings package was $85.30
Actual closing at borrower's was $150.00 ($80.00 for notarial acts and $70.00 for my time)
Fax Backs at Kinkos was $5.00
Taxie fare from borrower's home via Kinkos back to office was $40.00

My lowball total fee for this closing was only $305.30

Now I have to wait 30-60 days to get reimburdsed for these out of pocket expenses; if the signing service decides to pay me at all for my services.

God I love this job more every day!!

Stingray pre-inked stamp from NR?
Posted by TRG_wy at 6/29/2007 4:28:00 PM
Yes I searched.

I found the size in a post (Stingray Impression: 2.2" x 0.7"Wink
but I still have two other questions.
1. Ink color options - Blue and/or Black? Blue needed
2. Does it include the state seal in the impression?

Suggestion: This info should be provided in product description.

Thx
