Notary Express - La Mirada, CA

I did a signing for Notary Exchange on July 18, 2003 and have not been paid yet. He has been telling me for the past two weeks that he will put a check in the mail. He claims that he did not get paid by the escrow company. I called the escrow company to ask them about the payment. They told me that the company that hired me is responsible for paying me.

"...I called the escrow company to ask them about the payment. They told me that the company that hired me is responsible for paying me."

I have received the same type of response. I think that lenders and title co's should be held responsible for the type of companies THEY themselves are hiring.

If a lender or title co is receiving calls from Notaries that they haven't been paid then there is a problem with that company. The lender or title co should not give that company any more business.

Quite frankly, these lenders and title co's have plenty of weight to throw around and have the power to compel SS's to pay us our fees.

We should not be left "swinging in the wind".

I agree, ethically, that the lender or title company should be responsible, so they don't lose us to help them. However, maybe they already paid the signing agency and assumed that we were paid. Of course, a phone call from a signing agent should send up a red flag to the title company or lender, and they should investigate- and maybe quit doing business with them (agency).
