STAMP at signing or when you return???

I read on another website, that some notaries stamp at signing table, and others stamp after they return back to the office. Which do you fellow notaries do?

I don't understand why anybody wouldn't stamp at the signing. It's not particularly hard, doesn't take much time, and don't we all end up with a little time staring at the walls while the borrowers are signing?

Anyway, to properly notarize a document, you must do the notarization at the time of the signing, not later.

At the signing so I have three chances to check my work. One while the signing is taking place. Second when I go through the package before I leave the borrower. Third before I ship the documents.

I do the stamping at the table, during this process, I have caught a lot of areas that the borrower have not signed their name, this is important expecially if you have over 120 pages in a doc. I also check the packet for missed notarizations at the end of the signing part and right before I send it out at Fedex kinkos, I just don't want to learn the hard way..

I'm a "return" girl

#1 My state does not require a stamp, some states require you to "complete the entire act" immediately.

#2 I've been doing it after the closing for so long, and the system hasn't failed me, so I'm not apt to change. I DO sign where required at the closing; only the stamping I do AFTER.

#3 I like to leave my stamp at home, this way it cannot get lost, or fall apart in a hot car (this happend to me before).

#4 I travel light, borrowers docs go in an envelope along with pens and I put my keys and cell phone in my pocket. I don't want to be tied down with a cumbersome briefcase, no matter how stylish it may be. If I brought my stamp, I would have to bring the briefcase as I don't have enough pockets! Smiley I once witnessed my neighbor closing on his GMAC refi two years ago. The "closer" parked the car, opened her trunk, pulled out two briefcases, one big and one small, both on wheels. I couldn't imagine what she needed all the "stuff" for. My neighbor said she opened her cases and pulled out a stapler, black and blue pens, her "sign here" flags, etc. She was there for almost 2 hours! My neighbor called to complain.

Looks like I deviated from the original question, sorry!
