Location for refi's

I've asked this question before, and got no response, so I'd like to try again. Are notaries in other states, such as California, Florida and New York, authorized to close purchase loans in the purchaser's home without an attorney present?

Yes. It's not required in California.

In Florida, yes. I do purchases all the time, with no attorney present. I have done them at the "property", the real estate office, the sellers home, the title company and the builder's sales office (for new home purchases).

It must be wonderful to have such a pool of potential closings to draw from. In Texas, we can do refi's and reverse mortgages in homes. Purchases, however, and home equity loans are confined to certain locations, such as attorney offices, where there is a great likelihood that a resident notary will be present.
