Waiting for my Commission and waiting and waiting........
Does anyone know how long it can take in SoCal after fingerprinting to conduct the background check? I am waiting 10 weeks now and still not heard anything. Can anyone advise if I can contact someone about this issue? I appreciate your help.

The wait time for appointment right now is 2 to 3 months due to the volume of applications.

Amen...it took me 3 and a half months. very frustrating. Add on to that the time it took to get insured and stamp in hand...4 months...whew. If it's any consolation....it was worth the wait

Don't despair, I just FINALLY got my package today, after completing the fingerprinting on Aug 27. Now I just have to wait for the supplies...

I teach notary classes in Calif. for notaryclasses.com and I ran into a student of mine ( 2 weeks ago) that told me they were just processing the end of July applicants. He said he had called the Sec. of State. It looks as though it will take a minumim of 11-13 weeks to receive your commission and this starts after you do your fingerprinting scan.

Well, thank you all for your answers. It was very helpfull. My problem was that my notary service is printed on 20.000 flyers for my Income Tax business that I want to start distributing the day after Christmas. So there is hope that I have my Commission in time.

I wonder if....
....all the background checkes, finger printing, manditory classes, using pre approved stamp/seal companies that occur in CA and in other states really produce a "better" notary, than states that don't have such laws to appoint notaries. I wonder how many applicants in CA, were rejected due to the background checks. Just seems like a lot of tax dollars spent in the CA notary division.
Anyone have any stats on this?

Orca, sounds like you and I are doing the same thing! I am just starting my tax business and was also worried about the fact that all my advertising, including the phone book which is getting ready to come out, lists me as a Notary. I had not expected the state to take so long. Like I said earlier, I did my fingerprinting on Aug 27, and finally received my package two days ago. The only thing that is holding me up now is my supplies. If you think you are close, be ready to order everything. The day I get my items in the mail after ordering from this site, I will be at the County Clerk office so that I can finally be ready....Good luck in your business!
