No more signings where I don't control the docs!
I had a 2 hour gap the other day between two well paying edoc signings when I was called to do a $50 signing. Stupid me, instead of stating my regular price, I took it as it was 2 doors down from my last signing and I figured I would make a quick buck without spending any more gas. It was one of those signings where they send the client the docs. I usually don't like those, but what the heck.
I get there, and the client has two sets of docs, both open. They had gone through the docs, had them apart and mixed up. Normally, I would call the ss and if I did not like the answers I got I would not do the signing, but of course, all I could get was an answering machine. No support from the lender, title company or the signing service voice mail on all.
Anyway, got the right docs-- hopefully, compared them with the list and completed the signing. Must be ok, as I have not recieved any phone calls to the contrary today. If I get docked on the fee, I will list the name of the signing company on the board, but for right now, it was just a giant pain in the neck and also my last $50 dollar signing.
And anyone out there that wants to tell me "I told you so", go ahead, I deserve it.

Glenn, I have done 50 or 60 of these types and never had anyone get into the package. This also seems to be a wave of the future...going to the bwrs I mean. I would not cut myself off from these. Usually, I am in and out. Brenda

What is the general fee when the docs are sent directly to the borrower?

Re: In this neck of the woods,
They get into them about half the time. I don't know what it is. Must be the air pollution. No, I won't cut myself off, but I an not going to do them for 50 bucks anymore. Thanks for the advice.

Re: In this neck of the woods,
I've got an even better one. Doc's went to the borrower and thoughtful borrower's they were. They thought that they would save me some time and had 3/4 of the package signed by the time I showed up, the only reason that they didn't finish was because they had a question on a doc and thought maybe they should wait for me. They had signed in both blue and black ink, no middle initials, etc. etc. Needless to say, we ended up using the borrowers copies. It was a fun time for all. So, I do understand your frustration.
Most of the time, if the doc's are going to the borrower, I show up and they haven't even opened up the package. They wait for me.

May I suggest...
That during your confirmation call, along with all the other stuff we mention, that you emphatically but politely tell them "Do NOT open the package. I will do that when I get there otherwise your loan may be invalidated." Now, before y'all get upset, please notice I said 'may'. May is a wonderful word. Doesn't mean 'definitely will'; doesn't mean 'definitely won't'... just may (or maybe not). I have had a pkg. that specifically stated that if it was opened by anyone but me, I was to terminate the signing & call them.

Re: May I suggest...
Here's a different slant on this. Today I called a borrower to schedule a signing this Friday. Before I could go through my spiel about being an impartial witness to her signature on the docs etc. she says "your going to explain all of the charges to me - correct?" I politely explain that if she has any questions regarding the charges, she needs to take them up with her Lender. I explain my role as to what I can and cannot do. She then goes into a dissertation about how they didn't explain anything to her, they upped her interest rate, etc., etc., etc. At this point, I realize this is going to be a messy signing so I tell her that since SHE will be getting the doc package to open it, take out the HUD, TIL and Note, check the numbers, and call her Lender with any questions. After which, call me and let me know if she is going to go through with the signing. I can’t see wasting my time going to a signing only to have the borrower cancel because she’s upset with the charges.

I got an Email today from Veri Docs stating they even though they agreed to the fee the guy decided I wanted to much, he of course has his docs in hand. I informed him I would notifiy on all fronts as well as file complaints accordingly. Don't know where these guys get off! he wanted to pay 50.00 which I politely declined
