I am thinking about adding a gasoline surcharge just like the airlines and other companies do.

I hope you're not foolish enough to call it a "gasoline surcharge" when you're quoting fees.

how much would you take it up to if your normal travel fee is 50.00 for the first 15 miles

You don't have to put a surcharge on. Just don't accept those $50.00 signings.

the Fed-Ex gasoline surcharge is only $1.99, so I cant see raising the fee by that amount.

Yea, but that's a $1.99 per package. They do a lot of packages. If each route gets 500 packages a trip (arbitrary figure), that means they get about a thousand dollars extra for fuel. Sound fair? So, if a signing agents charges $5.00 per trip, that may mean a $15.00 extra for fuel a day. Sound equitable?

I have not change my fee's I have shrunk down my coverage are though. I am also taking more local signings and my HELOC business is booming. (for now)

Nope. But.....

I severely limit the distance on the signings I will take for my "old" fees. My "county wide" fee is now my "city wide" fee.

I quote higher-than-base prices to addresses farther than 10 miles away.

$3.09 a gallon here!

Re: Nope. But.....

What is wrong with calling it what it is, a gasoline surcharge? If you added just 5.00 per signing it would help offset the cost especially with people trying to drive down the cost of signings. I think any $50 closing should be charged an extra $5 for a gasoline surcharge. No reason to hide the charge, I think must people would understand and honesty is the best policy.
