what to do when you accept an e-doc piggyback and quote a
reasonable fee then find out upon printing the docs that there are over $400 pages including both copies. It is too late to increase the fee?

Yes, it's too late.
How many pages were you expecting? How much additional were you planning on charging? The additional toner and paper expenses are miniscule, and I can't imagine you had to invest a whole lot of extra time and effort in printing them out. Would you call them and decrease your fee if it ended up being fewer pages than you were expecting? Of course not.
200 pages for a first and second doesn't sound unreasonable, it's just on the higher end of the average. I've done plenty of loans that were 100+ pages.
Look at the bigger picture when setting your fees. Sometimes you'll come out a bit ahead, sometimes you'll come out a bit behind. But it is certainly not worth pissing off the company who hired you and possibly lose future business just to get another 10 bucks in your pocket from a signle signing.

Do not agree with you Cali, one time I had a call from a cheap SS and I quoted 85.00 when I got the file it was 225 pages; It was 1st and 2nd I called them back and asked 185.00 and they gave to me.

Re: to JPS_CA
Yes, but when you originally quoted $85, were you told it was a first and a second? Most SS's will increase the fee if they believed it was only a first and it ended up being a second, too.
If you, in fact, knew that it was a first and a second when you quoted $85, you were the fool.

Re: to CarolynCO
If somebody accepted a piggyback edoc loan for $85 they ARE a fool. Chances are that being called a fool is going to grab their attention and hopefully get them to change their ways in the future. Anybody who doesn't have a thick enough skin to handle being called a fool on this board doesn't have a thick enough skin to do loan signings either.

If they did not tell you it was a piggy back then of course you can go back and increase the fee. It's happened to me often. They seldom argue about the increased fee if its in line with the other fees you have charged.
