Did a search and found a bp/wv imposter...
Could this be? I did a search on posts by me in the past and came up with message #54977 that I did not write and a few others. I know this for certain because I use (all caps) BP/WV AND would never write that crap.
How is this possible? I've been a member for a long time and have always used BP/WV.

Anyone can change their handle to whatever they want. I did this a month or so ago with Brenda/TX, changing my handle to look like hers and posted a message, then changed it back and responded to it. I looked like she and I were have a conversation.

That is just wrong in my book, humor aside.

It was done to prove the point that it is easy to be an impostor. I didn't do it mischievously.

A very valid point, and a serious flaw in the board architecture along with the "anonymous" pseudo: Synonyms: bearding, incog, incognito, innominate, nameless, pseudo, pseudonymous, secret, unacknowledged, unattested, unavowed, unclaimed, uncredited, undesignated, undisclosed, unidentified, unnamed, unsigned, unspecified
Antonyms: identified, known, named, showcased, spotlighted
The best thing for folks to do is totally ignore the anonymous posts.....trolls do not like to be ignored.

An username should be for one, and only one person, AND the anon veil should not be a feature. The overall board quality has decreased over the past few months IMO, primarily fed by the anons.

Well, frankly, it's those that feel the need to trash those of us that prefer anonymous instead of a real name that have brought the board down. If all of you anti-anonymous whiners would not find it in yourself to be the board police maybe it would not matter who posted as what.

Actually Anon, I'll have to agree with the other board members on this one. It's not that difficult to choose some random screen name and attach it to your posts. You could choose Suzy Q, just choose something! It IS rather annoying trying to keep up with the Anon postings and it looks like they are all talking to each other.
Everyone thinks I'm Anonymous. I really wish IP addresses were still being posted. Ugh.

Wow, aren't you holier than thou, NM. Wasn't it you that was called down because of the anonymous posting? Remember, you were Anon1 and then you changed. Guess what, they still don't like you either.

There is no truth to what you're saying. People think I'm posting as Anonymous and it's people like YOU who DO post as Anonymous who RUIN IT to be on here.

We tend to revisit this discussion of "anonymous" quite frequently, please see thread #74340. I think TitleGal hits the nail on the head with her comment "In a community, or family, of NSA's it's important to be able to say..."oh, so-and-so has responded to my question and by their prior posts and identity they know what they're talking about - I trust their knowledge - so I can be confident that this is good information".
How do you know that any one of the Anonymous on the board isn't just pulling your chain for amusement purposes (as "anon by choice" said earlier...eg. the comment...oh, goodie...it's so easy to get the vet's riled up") For cryin out loud...who posts here to get someone "riled up"???? Anons do. For their own amusement."
That is exactly how I feel....I just dont trust anything an anons say. And as far as hijacking handles.. thats just wrong in itself.

Anon, is it too much to ask yourself and other anons to use your inits and state abbreviation? Heck, your inits might be a state code itself. You could be (hypothetically) Nancy Martinez for Colorado. Secondly, if you do not click the box next to "Add Link To My Profile" its almost impossible to find which person you are. For example, (since I am in California myself) if I tried, it would take forever to figure out which person is really Calinotary because he does not link his profile. Only people with nothing to do what make that effort. Just imagine how many zip codes are in a state, even one as small as RI. Personally, I don't even know what city CaliNotary is from. The same goes for everyone that does not add their profile. That said, are you the only person in the state you reside with those initials? Are you that unique?
As for those people using someone elses handle, I hope NotRot is looking into this matter. That is just flat out wrong.

KB, your post was kinda confusing, are you referring to me or to Anon? Uhhh.........
I agree about I hope NotRot is looking into it because I'm tired of people thinking I'm ANON! I'm NOT!

Hi NM, I using your handle as an example. However, looking at your handle, both NM & CO are state codes. They also can be a persons initials. NM can be Nancy Martinez...it also could a million other names. My point is that these anon's must think that their initials are unique to them only. All I am asking for (I can't speak for the other members) is name inits and state abbrev.

Kyle, I see what you're saying now. The NM is my last name, Nielsen-Mayer and I live in Colorado. I do agree about the Anon thing, I get tired of it too especially when people think it's me who is posting as Anon. I knocked that off after I switched my screen name to NM_CO. I can't stand it either, I just don't voice my opinion about it too often.

Here's my take on this whole "Anon"/anonymous thing. In order to build credibility with ones peers, everyone must be able to identify each other. This does not mean that we need to know your name, address, phone number, name of your first born, etc., just a means of positive identification. It doesn't make any difference if you use your whole name or some moniker, as long as we know (at least by reputation) who we're 'talking' with.
Since there are so many anonymous posters, and all too often the post contains nothing but flaming drivel, I often don't read them at all, even if a legitimate post is made. And I'm sure there are many others here who do the same.

Re: I hope you report it to Harry immediately
Unlike us who have no idea of who the Anons are, he can immediately tell who is posting what. That was the biggest downfall of KH -- at that time, IP addresses showed and he was impersoniating other members all the while using the same IP.
