Please help! I cant get my new HL5150 to print legal/letter

I did a few searches and I dont find the right info and how to set up the printer to distinguish from
letter and legal size paper.

Anybody here will bother to post a solution? Thank you!

Calnotary, I have two plus the MP tray in other words the HL 5150 DLT. If you have the lower tray (LT) it must be installed as an accessory before the printer recognizes it. How many trays do you have?

Re: Please help! I cant get my new HL5150 to print legal/let

Earlier this year another poster gave me the directions to do this:

Under 'Printers and Faxes' click on your Brother; 'Printer' menu - choose 'Properties'
'
Accessories' tab - your LT tray should be listed on right (if so it's installed already and you just need to assign the paper types)-(if not then use 'Auto Detect' then click on LT-5000 then 'Add' then 'Apply'or 'Update' (LT should definitely be on right showing it's installed

Now you should have all three trays listed under 'Paper Source Setting'.

Go to 'Default source' and click on one tray then use section above to assign it a paper size - click 'Apply' after you make all the assignments. It's best to assign Tray 1 for Legal and Tray 2 for letter and leave the MP for undefined.

This is how I've set mine up and have never had an issue. But keep in mind that your printer is subject to the document program. If the program does not distinguish the paper size then the printer will just pull from Tray 1 which is fine if that's already set up with legal.

I'm no techie, but I hope this helps.

Re: Please help! I cant get my new HL5150 to print legal/let

You have two separate drawers that pull out and look exactly the same, and each hold 250 sheets of paper, ( bottom tray/drawer is called LT5000 and is added after you unpack) or 1 drawer and 1 FOLD DOWN tray on front (also known as MP tray) that only holds 50 sheets?

If you have 2nd tray, it must be "added or activated" before it will be recognized, and therefore usable.

2nd issue: it is the document "encoding" that tells the printer to print letter/legal.

let us know what you have, and we'll assist further

my software disc for the dlt printer did not have the right option on it. so i had to call brother and they told me where to go to download the second tray info. then i went back to my printer options and there it was the option to use the second tray and make it legal. it now works like a charm. email me if you have anymore problems.
