After the EOM I have had more "Public Notary"
Interesting week as I have had more "Public Notary " work than I have had in weeks. I am/or have done 6 notary signings that have nothing to do with loan signing from last week to next Monday.
Here is what I charge: $35-$50 mobile fee and $10 a signature (Ca fees). My point is while loan signing is far and away the most profitable way to make an income as a Notary in Calif; there are some other ways to make money as notary in Calif.
I don't think anyone can make a living being a notary in any state without being a loan-signer.
Maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks for posting that, Joan. I intend to do more public notary work. I was at Kinkos one night and mentioned to the manager that I was a notary. He said that they get calls from people wanting something notarized. I gave him my business card and he taped it to the cash register. So far I have gotten 3 calls. Colorado Springs is relatively small, and I don't have to drive very far. Kinkos is only 3 miles away. My fee to go there is $15 + $5 per notarization. I have been focusing most of my marketing on the loan signing aspect, but I'm going to work on doing more to promote the public notary work. I have a book that I bought from Laura Vestanen that provides some good tips on marketing a mobile notary business. I'm going to review it this weekend.

I agree with you, Joan. January was a slow "loan" month yet I stayed busy with other notary work. I have done my share of marketing to nursing homes, Kinkos/Mailbox Plus locations and believe it or not...tattoo and ear piercing businesses. I'm in Florida and many require a kid under the age of 18 to have a parent sign a consent form for a tattoo or ear/body piercing.
I've also had borrower's call me directly for signings recently. I'm wondering if this is becoming a new trend?
As well as broker's calling me directly, asking me to take the assignment, then informing the TC that they have chosen thier own signing agent. Although, I've done some direct marketing to brokers; one stated that he doesn't let the TC "farm it out to a signing service". As he wanted to save the BO some of the closing cost by not using a "middleman". He found me on one of the site's where I advertise. Also a new trend?

***I'm in Florida and many require a kid under the age of 18 to have a parent sign a consent form for a tattoo or ear/body piercing*** ??? what does this have to do with you?
You say you've done direct marketing to brokers, then you say he found you....you are so full of it, go back to bed.

In Florida the form for piercing or tattoos on a minor must be signed by parent or guardian. It must be notarized also. b.

Re: Charm
wow, I didn't know that, usually the parent goes in and signs in the presence of the tatooer and that's that.

Me, too! A little more than 1 month ago, I put a banner sign on my home fence, facing a busy street, and a small ad in a local paper. For gen. notarizations, so far, I am grossing about $100/week, for about 3-4 hours of my time. Not a lot, but it helps me stay busy on Saturdays (very few loan signings on Sat for me). Additionally, one of these clients referred me to a friend who is refi'ing and had to hire his own notary, and I am hoping his lender/tc will refer more to me. Folks have tried to discourage me from doing it, but I see real potential there, especially with some lenders requiring the brw to find/pay his own notary.

I think this could be good way to fill up those slow times. I am going to look into a sign for the front of my property. Why not? I'm in a rural area and its 15 miles to town. I could save someone a trip and put some gas money in my pocket. Beverly

It is keeping me somewhat busy on Sats, for example, I have 3 scheduled today between 1-3 PM. BTW, I had forgotten about FL requirements for a notarized statement from guardian for minors to get piercings/tatoos. I am gonna market the tatto parlors today after my scheduled appts. Thanks for reminding me!

Re: Joan-Misterella
I used to work at a travel agency, and found that notarizations are also needed if a minor is going out of the country without either of his/her parents. In other words, a family invites their son/daughter's "friend" to go along with their family to the Bahamas and the "friend" is under 18. They need a notarized letter from the "friend's" parents saying it's ok for their son/daughter to travel out of the country with the other family in order to get through customs.
Might not hurt to advertise at local travel agencies.

I only do loan closings for a living and average 2 to 3 per day and end of month, well we know what that is like...any way, its all in how you market yourself and your services. How much do you want to make? On any given day any notary can find work IF you want to look, fax, call and research the market. We have 50 states we can work for here in Fl., that leaves a VAST almost unlimited market to tap into.

You need deversivied sources of incomes these days in order to survive. I seem to be busy enough to meet my income goals and have done several Public Notary jobs just because someone had my card or pen. My trave basic travel fee for general notary is $25 in a small area around my home, then I will charge per mile after that.
