OT.....Back from Oregon and what a beautiful state!!

I had so much fun visiting the city of Portland, I missed the wine country due to road construction...bummer! But we drove down the coast to visit Newport and ate on the pier...delicious! Visited the Sea Lion Caves in Florence and the Heceta Head Lighthouse, climbed the sand dunes...on down to the Faerie Festival in Veneta, then back to Eugene to the hotel and home.

The coast was gorgeous! The parts of the state I did see was such a visual pleasure. I only had five days and I am sure there is much more that I didn't get to see! but what a blast me and my daughter had! Great weather too! Oregon is a beautiful state!

Came back to WI and it was a 104 heat index on Monday! Ouch!

My brother lives in Medford.. Even Southern Oregon is beautiful.

The trip from Medford to Brookings via Redwood National forest is one I'd recommend to EVERYONE..
Amazing Big Smile

Re: OT.....Back from Oregon- Janel

Oh yes! Some refer to WI as the Emerald Garden because of so many many green trees and green grass....however with burn bans and such WI has turned quite brown as of late. It is very dry here. But Oregon trees......goodness they are HUGE! compared to WI. Plus set along and atop these hillsides I was just in awe at how beautiful the landscape is. The roads cutting through these mountains and how the trees hung over the road like you were driving through an enchanted forest...it was really cool! I loved it. I am so very glad we decided to go to Oregon and not DisneyWorld! It was my daughters first time touching her toes in the ocean and before I knew it she was up to her knees....she was so excited. After a couple minutes I had to get out! it was very cold but she was having a blast! Too fun!

Re: OT.....Back from Oregon- Janel---Janel?????

I'm assuming as you drove to the ocean and went to Newport you must have taken 20/34, that road is fill with overhanging trees.....sooooooo pretty.

Yep. But don't tell people wanting to move.

Love it here in PacNorthwest. Nice + cool.

Everyone should come visit. Bring your credit cards. Then leave.

No jobs here
NSA saturated
Truly

Only people who move here and make it are retired
or
sell stuff on internet.

Californians moving here are driving our housing costs way beyond affordable.

Re: Yep. But don't tell people wanting to move.

I have some friends that just moved to Portland from WI. He is going to culinary school out there. They want to set up a bed and breakfast but are finding the real estate market out there to be a bit high for such a line of work.

Pacific NW sounds like NW WI, the only people who make it here are business owners, people who work for rich people from MN, IL and FL. Cleaning and maintaining cabins. This is a very big resort area, so if you want to make it....real jobs are few and you better sell something or own a business, otherwise you are doomed to make $8.50 to $10.50 per hour at the Jerky plant here in town. Although those jobs are becoming scarce because the owners have hired many mexican workers to replace the 300 workers they just laid off a couple years ago. I doubt with the housing provided for them and the credit they get at the store they realize that they are costing this big company nothing, it is just going back into the owners pocket.
