boycott Chinese products. China clubs 50,000 dogs to death - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14139027/

Will you also boycott American made products because we slaughter cows? Chickens(Mmm...Popeyes)? Will you boycott Red Lobster and the Cheddar Biscuits cuz we slaughter fish, crab, lobster, and crustations? In some countries and in this case China, certain breeds of dogs are bred and raised and slaughtered for their meat. Many cultures view this as taboo and dogs as unclean. The lowest of the low.

A little food for thought. No pun intended.

Would you beat your best friend to death! I don't have a cow, lobster (I love Red Lobster), chickens or cheddar biscuits as pets.

Easy to take care of, except when he left little cheddar droppings all over the floor. What are you laughing at? Admit it, anyone over 35 used to have a pet rock.

More political crap from Jahari

shrouded in a OT topic that would normally bring people together in agreement.

***Will you also boycott American made products because we slaughter cows? Chickens(Mmm...Popeyes)? Will you boycott Red Lobster and the Cheddar Biscuits cuz we slaughter fish, crab, lobster, and crustations?***

Um...let me think about this for a nano second...no.

Will I boycott Chinese products? Maybe.

See the difference is, we live in the United States, Jahari as you do. In the United States, we love our dogs. They become our "children" and we humanize them, even Cesar Millan agrees so.

You're post is suggesting we should "re-think" that response because other countries have a different perspective. But, we are NOT another country, we are America.

I have a better idea...I suggest that you should move to another country. You'd be happier.

Taking the gloves off...

TitleGal, I've really had enough of this. Nothing in my post was political. You made it such. I only asked if this person would boycott American made products because we do to cattle what they do to dogs. This post just goes to show how shallow, ignorant and small your world truly is. You have nothing valid to bring to an intelligent discussion be it about animal cruelty, politics, or the Yankees game the other night. You pointed out the obvious that we both live in the United States. However what you refuse to understand is that we are a part of a much larger world beyond our shores and there are lots of things that happen in other cultures that people like you cannot and will not understand. You would never entertain the idea of asking a person "Why they do this in their culture?"
Here in America, Dogs are our pets. In China, they are bred and raised to be food. In India they are seen as unclean. In the Muslim world they see pigs and other cloven hooved animals as evil and unclean, yet you go to any IHOP here in the western world, you can get the Hungryman special with Bacon, Ham, and Sausage.
Once again, you have demostrated how great you are at cutting and pasting and how truly incapable you are of thinking beyond the end of your nose. Time after time, you demonize my character, my name, and taint my point of view by labeling me and dismissing me to another country. One thing I will never do is dismiss you to another country and promise you you'd be happier there because this is your home as it is mine. I dont take this $#!@ from anyone and I outright refuse to take it from you.

Re: Taking the gloves off...

Anything that even remotely seems as if it rationalizes it might be okay to club dogs, which is what came out in the message about us killings cows to eat.

Sorry Jahari, but this is the truth. I'd say that 75% of the readers here are dog owners.

As you know, Jahari, I have a saying that comes from the Bible. "You don't throw pearls before swine."

From bartlesby.com - to explain more succinctly than I can: >>Do not waste good things on people who will not appreciate them. This proverb is adapted from a saying of Jesus from the Gospels, “Cast not pearls before swine.” Jesus appears to be warning his disciples to preach only before receptive audiences.<< This is also my interpretation of that passage.

Now, before everyone gets nutty about me calling "us" swine, hear me out.

What evolves in the head of a poster may be the prettiest pearl ever to that poster.

However, if you KNOW you are going to be throwing that "pearl" before people who WILL NOT appreciate it or receive it respectfully, then expect them (pigs) to trample your pearls. Don't get all huffy when you get drawn and quartered for it. It's your choice to cause more argument.

*I* am definitely one of the pigs here.

It's your choice to get a barrage of insult as a result of it. If you do not care if you get insulted, well...keep on posting inflammatory "food for thought."

Another stupid remark by Jahari and now bestcal

I love my dogs. They are a part of our family. In fact we care so much that we vacinate them against rabies. It makes no sence that a country that eats dogs doesn't vacinate them so there isn't an issue with rabies. It's frigging ignorant. You don't treat a source of food like garbage.

How do you kill a chicken? You whack it's block off. It's pretty quick. How is a cow slaughtered? It's throat is slit and it's shot in the head. It's pretty quick. Lobster is boiled. It's pretty quick. Fish, lop off their heads. Quick. Crab and crustaceans, a stab through the brain, immediate. Cheddar biscuts that's just idiotic.

But we are talking about dogs being beaten to death. Have these idiots ever heard of a bullet. Beating to death anything is just a way for some sicko to get their rocks off. Good grief if a rabid skunk enters my yard I'm shooting it and protecting my property.

I have no problem eating a dog if it was all there was to eat. But it isn't. We have other food sources. It's a shame the Chinesse haven't figured out how usefull dogs are. Then they wouldn't be eating them. Chalk up 2 marks on the ignorant chart for the Chinese, 9 for Jahari (7 animals, 1 biscut, and the pun that was intended no doubt about it), and 1 for bestcal (even a vegan knows that beating anything to death is sick).

You just answered your own query. "Some" people love them yet "most of us" eat them.

Another lightning bolt of original thought. Oh yeah, I just read an article in the paper about a cow that saved it's owner from a fire.

No...better, I just read an article about "Seeing Eye Cows". Yep. Now Cows are a human's best friend...especially a blind human. Cow training camps are all over the US for blind people. The German Shepards are out. Cows are In.

Even the police dept. is on it. No longer will we have K9 units...we will have Cow Units. The cow goes in the back seat and runs down a criminal without thought to their own cud-chewing life.

Yeah. Nice post - so well thought out.

You should be sorry

Because you don't have the ability to discern and adopt your beliefs to reason.

I am not a "Vegan" in the politically correct sense. I am one in a sensible and reasonable way.

Reason says that a fisherman goes out to sea to catch fish for humans to eat. The same holds true for beef and poultry.

Reason also says that those animals that hold a higher place to their needs and ideals should also be regarded as such and treated differently.

Dogs, in this Country, are different. To support what the Chinese did in the original article is simply primitive.

Hey, here's an idea - I suggest you go to your local market and order 2 lbs of ground dog beef. Yeah. Double dare ya. Just please take a digital camera and post the reaction of the butcher.

Re: OT - Holy Cow, what did I miss?

Yikes, what's happening here?

I think the best part about living in America "Land of the Free" is that we all get to draw our own lines in the sand.
Some of us think it's okay to eat chicken, some of us think it's horrible. We discuss and debate the issues hoping to sway an opinion or two, but in the end.

We are all FREE to draw our own lines and decide for ourselves what is right and what is not for us and only us... It's actually beautiful if you think about it...

You have stirred up the pot once again haven't you. I don't think you even believe the crap you spout. You like jerking peoples chain's. I've watched you do it before.

The difference between Dogs and other meat that we eat is tremendous. Cow's chickens and pigs that are raised to be used for food are treated humanly in this country. Oh yes some aren't and we will read about that on 20/20 at least once a year. But you don't hear of them being beaten with clubs before they are eaten do you?
To take the side of any country that supports this behavior is ludicrous. Just because this is a tradition in their country doesn't make it right. The mutilation of women in some country's by their own family members is appalling, because it is a tradition of that country does that make it okay?
You are an idiot.

Someone mentioned our American rights to free speech. Americans may find this offensive because of the way dogs are humanized. However, has anyone given thought to the idea that maybe in China dogs are just that- dogs. Think of what we call men when they stray a bit.... "that dirty dog". So in other cultures dogs are simply not viewed in the same light as Americans do.

This may simply be another example of America imposing its views on other countries. How dare them do something that we find offensive. What if everyone else were to boycott America everytime we do something they find offensive. I tremble at the thought.
