I purchased my domain name from 'Network Solutions'. Whatever you choose, make sure they have been in business for a while. Also, there are Free websites to utilize for testing, playing around with, but when you are ready to go, it's best to purchase your domain name. For example, this sites domain name is notaryrotary.com.
I researched this at entrepreneur.com, but I have been an IS type person for years, so I have designed web sites before and have a good amount of computer knowledge. http://www.entrepreneur.com/ebusiness/0,6292,,00.html
If you need more assistance, email me with your questions. Have fun designing your site!!!

O/C, try www.godaddy.com, as advertised on Super Bowl 39.
I have my email and domain through them. They specialize in small businesses. The service is great and the prices are very low. They have a lot of D.I.Y. packages and tech support to talk you through it.
They have another Superbowl ad scheduled for this Sunday. Did a parody of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, last year. Hysterical.
