OT-pups, dogs, skunks, tractor pulls, Sonic, chiggers.
In the last couple of days.....
We finally got our yard fended. Now Dotty (dog1) has her run of the yard. First night in it she got skunked. Oh what a treat. Thank you Al Gore since he started the internet (stupind sarcastic remark), I was able to find a rememdy that works. Here's the formula:
1 quart peroxide 1/4 cup baking soda 1 tsp dish soap
Mix it up, hose the dog down, rub this in to coat and let sit for about 5 minutes. Do not use on dogs face. For the face believe it or not use Masengill's douce (sp). Wet a cotton square a whpe down dogs face. Do this while peroxide solution sits on dogs body. It works.
After this incedent we did something we have been meaning to do. We got a new puppy. She's a Blue Tick Coonhound. Cute as can be. 11 weeks old. Thanks to dog1, puppy hasn't whined at night at all. A big thanks to my Dotty dog. I talked the lady down from $275 to $150. It was the last puppy and I think she was ready for someone to take her. One look at her and those puppy eyes and we were suckered. I didn't think my hubby would spend the money on her but he loves hounds and was happy to get her.
I took the two oldest kids to the tractor pulls this weekend. It was an exibition, no competing. We had fun. We all enjoyed it. We met the 6th grade advanced placement teacher as she was sitting in front of us on the bleachers. She will be one of my sons teachers this coming school year. I have to tell you the people here are so nice. We have felt very welcomed. Then we took all the kids to see fireworks in another nearby town.
We stopped at Sonic where I had my first tropical cream slushy. Oh my gosh Sonic rules. Fresh chuncks of pineapple and banana in it. Sonic had an insane drink menu.
Chigger bites itch like a mutha. I am just thankful that I got the bites and my kids didn't. But oh my gosh I itch. I put calamine all over them and took a couple of Benedryl's (store brand). Now I am being totally kicked in the butt by them. I am having a real hard time focusing on this post. I could fall asleep at the keyboard and I can't spell worth a lick right now. I've had two cups of coffee and they haven't helped. The itching has subsided a great deal so I guess it's a good trade-off.

The irony of it all.
***I BETTER LEAVE CA NOW AND HEAD YOUR WAY ***
Here's the funny thing. Our town has only about 4000 people in it. The lady we bought the pup from moved out here 10 years ago. Guess where she's from. Riverside CA, which is where my hubby and I were from. We were only in the desert for 2 years.

For the chiggers try 1\4 cup chlorine bleach in bath water to kill the little blood suckers and use ChiggerX for the itch you can get it at any walmart drugstore

and painting...
Thanks TM. I read that lice shampoo will work also. I have some from a few months ago (a nightmare story in itself). This stuff is enzyme based and works for itching. I think I'm going to use it on the bites later after the benedryl wears off. With three kids it's impossible to deal with this drowsyness. To many responsibilities to deal with to be out of it.
Also we started our paint the bedroom thing this weekend. I need to put a second coat on the trim, but I'm not even going to attempt it until the benedryl wears off. No amount of tape will help with this drowsyness.

Re: and painting...
sb, welcome to TX. Talk to an exterminator about the creatures. My new best friend when I moved here to Georgetown, Was the BUG DUDE ! Scorpions, centipedes, Ants, serveral different types of bees, worms from the oak trees, taranculas, stink bugs, snakes, lizzards. And those are the only ones I've run across so far. I realize That we had these creatures in CA. but not in LA..... phew..... I hate bugs ! When I'm cleaning the house, I tell my husband I'm hunting for trespassers !!!!! not matter how well you clean and seal the cracks and holes the buggers still find a way in. Also, you might want to check with the vet about the snake shot. I hope you feel better soon. T. Farmer

Chiggers
As a little girl staying with my Grandma for the summer I had the pleasure of meeting chiggers. I knew them on a first name basis. Grandma put Noxema skin cream on them and that was the end of that.

Re: Chiggers
We must be related, lol. Except my G-ma chose Campho-Phenique as a remedy!

And some of those "little" critters are big enough for a saddle!

Re: chiggers...
There is a cream for scabies mites called EliMite that you can get a prescription for that kills chiggers on contact.!! We won't even go into the scabies bit.
