Dear doc preparers - Why we need two hours for e-docs.

Every time I decide that I can do an e-doc signing, it turns into a cluster. Do any doc preparers actually read this board? If so, do you understand why we ask for docs two hours ahead of time? Maybe it's never been s'plained to you:

We need time to travel (sorry, my Star Trek transporter is broken). Signings can be anywhere from a few minutes away to an hour away or more. We need to consider traffic, appointments from 3 p.m. to about 7 p.m. take longer to get to in metro areas. We need time to print. Most of you continue to send docs as scanned images. Even with a brand new top of the line Dell and maxed out upgraded memory on a quality printer, docs sometimes (no, most of the time) will only print 2 or 3 pages per minute. 120 pages, 2 copies, hmm, get the math here? And if there are other issues while printing, I run out of ink or get a paper jam, well that can add time, especially if I'm not sitting right there watching my printer cough and hack. Would you like me to review the package to make sure everything is there? Prepare the return envelope so I can ship this right away for you? Maybe we have an appointment before yours, so we need to leave for that one, and then go directly to your appointment.

And no, it's not always okay if I go later. Your loan is not the only signing we have. Maybe you could call my next three appointments and explain to them why I'm late. And the borrower's time is valuable, too. Why should they have to sit for hours because of your incompetence? Why is it that some mortgage and title companies have no problem getting docs ready and sent out days before, but others are consistently scrambling to meet the scheduled appointment? Hey, I have an idea. Don't schedule the appointment until everything has been approved.

Tell me again how e-doc fees should only be $15 - $25 while I wait for hours upon hours for docs, calling the title company, mortgage company, signing company, and borrower to resolve these issues, only to later have it canceled or rescheduled.

Do you know who's going to end up doing your signings? It won't be the professional, experienced signing agents. It will be some inexperienced sucker who does four signings a month, thinks HUD is an old Paul Newman movie, and has nothing else to do but sit around all day waiting for you to do your job.

For everyone's sake, get your freaking act together.

WOW, ESP IN OPERATION!!! I have the same thoughts every time I deal with edocs. The only time come early is when I then get second message that the settlement statement has been corrected and the new one will follow shortly. (shortly = who knows when, [please stand by and stare at your computor for an hour or two or, read every word of the docs we sent you on time]

while i agree somewhat with the original post, i think 2 pages a minute is overstating things a bit. i have a laser printer, and it takes about 5 minutes to print an entire package.

And don't lie about it!

Don't tell me they are on the way when they absolutely are not! I can't tell you how many times I've sat at my desk hitting the refresh button hoping that docs will magically apprear in my inbox!

Re: And don't lie about it!

Yes!! To me, "documents are ready to go now" does not mean that they still need to go to escrow, back to lender & on down the food chain until you're darned good & ready to send them to me. Oh, & get the email address right for once...it's not that difficult to spell notary.

...had to add that vent!

Re: Why we need two hours for e-docs and PRE-SCHEDULING with

clients. I had TWO closings for tonight and BOTH of them fell through because the SS/TC/LO did not bother to contact the clients to check their availability to sign this evening. This is getting really old really fast. COME ON!!!!!!!!

how 'bout when they tell the borrower the notary is behind,

then when you get there, the borrower is angry at US, and you spend the first ten minutes doing damage control, while they tell you they missed their evening dinner engagement because you were late. (yes, i was lying on my sofa eating bon bons waiting for your *^%$
documents, when i could have been back home already. i also like to be SURPRISED with 20 pages of fax back demands on the instructions! But i have to say, when its good, its great, the rush of an airport terminal or newspaper office, trying to make all this by deadline, so the client gets their loan they are so anxiously awaiting. we matter.

Don't forget, half the time they need to send a new HUD. And, when they are late, it arrives 10 minutes after you ran out the door to drive 25 miles in 10 minutes.

I agree with every thing you said. You can miss alot of signings fooling with people that don't know what they are doing. Waiting for docs can be very stressful. They need to space out the time, in some cases SS should always call you the day before..

Thank you,
Ohio Notary

You said it AL,

I had 2 signings scheduled for today. One was scheduled for 2pm and was a HELOC supposed to be
3 miles from my house. I had another schedule for 5pm. Well 2pm came and went and no docs.
I had to leave for my 5pm closing at 3pm because it was 1 1/2 hrs away. Got my docs for the 5pm
at 1:30pm, great but not HUD. I had to leave and got to the borrowers area and called because I still had no hud. I have a printer in my car for just this reason. When I called about the HUD they sent it right away (they said they thought someone had sent it) NOT. So then I got a call right before I was to
enter my 5pm, we have the docs now for the signing that was scheduled for 2pm. I had to print them after my 5pm closing and drive another 1 1/2 hrs. Got docs printed but guess what No HUD. Got the HUD at 7:30, stopped to print the HUD and 30 pages of JUNK docs, called borrower and said I was on my way. Turns out I have the wrong address, wont show up in my GPS or map program. Called borrower
to get correct address. Quess what, the wrong address was on all the docs also. Called title company
and they said they would send the borrower and address correction affadavit to sign tomorrow.
Borrower was very upset, not at me but at the lender. I hd not intended to be out until midnight as I have to get up early. OH by the way I got a call when I was in my last signing to do another signing tonight
and I said NO WAY
