What makes you think the scheduling agent did not offer the next notary more money, just to have the satisfaction of NOT having to call you back (after you presumably turned it down for the understandably unacceptable fee offer)?

exactly, I think they make several calls and get turned down, they may decide to make a more reasonable offer.

The frustrating part is they would have saved time, aggrivation, and phone charges if they would have just loosened the pinch on the pennies in the first place. Doing business in an inefficient way costs money.

In my opinion we need to set a standard on fees so that the full timers can earn a living and the part timers can have that second income needed to support the family. I think it's rediculous to ask us to accept any less than $75 from an ss for overnights. Now will that ever happen, not unless we do form that professional organization that we need.

Here's some food for thought for the NNA, Joan and the gang, and any other educational entity. Now I don't know what they are teaching reguarding fees. When I took my class they said you can make in between xx and xx amount per job. These were high tc fees that they mentioned. Not the ss lowball screwjob. I would like to see the subject of fees to be addressed a bit more thoroughly in sa classes. Not just what is fair but what it takes to stay in business and not bring the fees down for the business as a whole. And that if one accepts a lowball fee from a company that regularly lowballs, you don't even have a snowballs chance in heck of them raising your fee in the future because they will just look for another newbie who doesn't know any better.

I would be interested in knowing how Joan and the gang have handled this subject.

Whether or not someone took a signing for $50 is, quite frankly, none of your business. How do you know it even ended up being $50?

it is NCs business because if someone is accepting $50 e-doc signings, it degrades the entire profession

I think what I feel I can charge for MY WORK is no one's business but mine. Why would you think it's okay to tell people what to do and how to do it. It's probably degrading to you to take a $50 signing but in NC's case it might be a necessity. What nerve.

Maybe I misread this whole thread but ... NC did NOT wish to take the edoc signing for $50.00.

Okay then.. It's probably degrading to you to take a $50 signing but to SA in Raliegh it might be a necessity. Does that help?

No it doesn't help. At $50 for an edoc signing you'll be lucky to make minimum wage and that's assuming it's not a company that requests fax backs and multiple calls. You won't stay in business for long at that rate.

I know it is "your own business" but it's unfair to do this to our area! 50.00 for 50 miles plus fax back. I do this full time and have been over 10 years and now we have a degrading low baller in our market. If you really want to know this is a client that I have closed over 200 loans for and get 225.00 now it's a 50.00 offer..So is it still not my business? What nerve of you!!!!!!!!!!!

It is that agent's business, 100%.

I think you are very naive, Judy. If someone in an agent's marketplace is taking closings for significantly less than that agent's usual going rate, it is, in fact, something to be concerned about.

Do you think the retailers on Main Street are concerned when a Wal-Mart sprouts up on the edge of town? You bet they are. They are concerned that it's only a matter of time until they will be putting their own job apps in at Wal-Mart.

What could you possibly hoped to achieve with accepting $50 edoc signings? That's no way to build a business. It wouldn't even buy me gas and dinner on any given night.

Re: It is that agent's business, 100%.

Exactly. You've got to be able to replace equipment. I can't tell you how many times I've had something fry within a month or two of the warranty expiring. At $50 for edocs your business is out of business. Sure you could charge new equipment but then you have to raise your rates. Do that with lowballer companies and they will drop you like a hot potato for the next gullible one. Then how are you going to pay back the credit company. It's a terrible business decision any way you look at it. Your profit needs to afford you more than just a fast food meal.

If you'll all notice, JudyinLA is a negative and bashing type person. Steer clear of her slamming insults and take anything she/he says with a grain of salt. There's been no contribution to this forum from this poster whom likes to take out her/his misery on us.

Re: SarahBeth, I think you have to PAY for that information...

I would pay just to be able to contact the signer to find out why 50.00? , 50 miles and plus fax back... This is a full time job for me and taking this amount makes our job seems small!!!
