Janel, not to argue, definitely not...but every time I hear news like that I wonder if there is an ulterior motive putting out that kind of gloom.
One of the emotions which captures the attention and sways buyers in sales is fear. Sexual energy, desire for riches and power are others. Just a thought.

Agree with Brenda
A year from now when prices "drop" to a level that is probably higher than we have now, we will be very happy.

Re: Brenda....oh yes I agree society as a whole is very
reactive. Some people react like puppets on a string serving the self interest powers that be. It is getting increasingly difficult to weed out the valid news from what is meant to just toy with our lives. You are right about decadence. Enough is never enough. Every time the political poll numbers drop we are brought to a new level of fear or just reminded of the old ones. One day those tactics won't work anymore and then what? What level will we be on then? Playing hide and seek with the moral compass is a dangerous game to play. I worry about the future. I go on and live the best I can and set a good moral foundation for my daughter and hopefully she will be strong to stand up to what you are talking about. After all we can't take it with us!

Yes, it is frightening and I hope that hybrid car prices goes down. I am actually thinking of getting one.
Gas prices are expensive in other countries but they have more public transporation. When I went to London last year, I enjoyed riding the buses and trains that comes often and I didn't think it was expensive too.

I would enjoy driving less, if we had public transportation to my work area I'd be one of the first to join in..... Here is CA I just work in the wrong direction, but I see the transport bus each morning in Murrieta at thelocal WalMart loading up the Orange County folks that leave their cars and have the peaceful ride into their work as they catch up on sleep or read the paper...must be nice....I eased on down the road this a.m. listing to "Size Matters" a country western tune and it goes like "She wants a Big Ol House" now what were you thinking?

Re: OT...Size does matter...
There's a big difference between the extra bedrooms and the all-purpose room that is office, guest room and sewing room. Seven years ago I had a house 3.5 times as big as the one I am living in...for everything there is a season...it was full of people, full of activity. Two dogs and a youthful, albeit slightly middle aged, notary would rattle around in it. My cozy little two bedroom place is full of activity now...size does matter to the one who is using the space. This is one busy little 1100 sq. ft...but before...I'd be hearing things and closing up like an old lady into two rooms.
As far as gasoline...I am looking for a part-time job a block away, two blocks away....and going in a radius out. If I have to fold up the mobile business...the size of my jaunt will also matter. Next...the size of my bike wheels will matter.
Might as well laugh and focus on the things WE CAN CONTROL.

Re: OT...just heard on GMA this morning that the U.S. should
In my town of Pittsburgh, public transit ridership has been increasing steadily since August (Katrina) after years of falling off, and I in my selfishness think, "Darn, now the bus is going to be crowded and I'll have to stand again!"
Remember gas lines in the 70s, people buying smaller cars, walking more, riding bikes, public transit on the upswing? Then into the '90s the quick return to the gas guzzlers, one or more cars for every person in the household, suburbs with no sidewalks, grocery stores in malls instead of neighborhoods. We never learn. Oil companies have always had us right where they want us with our love of cars.
