number of commissioned notaries in CA

Did a search, no luck. I am curious where to go to find out the number of commissioned notaries in California - checked the SOS site, but found nothing - I would like to have actual numbers from the SOS. Do they publish those anywhere? TIA if anyone has information on this subject.

I'm more interested...

in what my actual competition is locally. Supposedly, the NotRot database will be cleaned out of notaries who did not update their information by October 31. If you go to the Find A Notary tab and put in your zip code it gives you the number of notaries within a specified radius of your zip. I'm thinking that it will go down drastically within the next few weeks as the database is cleaned updated and stale listings removed.

The Notary Handbook, available for download on the SOS website, lists their number for notaries in CA. On page 3 of the handbook it states there are more than 260,000 notaries in CA, as of the publication of the 2006 handbook.

We have (Calif) the fewest notaries per capita in the United States by 1/2 compared to New York which has the 2nd highest population in the United States.


Calif has 1 Notary per 142 population Approximately 36 million population.
New York has 1 notary per 71 population Approximately 20 million population.
Florida has 1 notary per 56 population Approximately 18 million population
