Power of Attorney/ Had to turn this one down
A long time friend of my sister had surgery recently, for ruptured brain aneurisms. It had been about 2months since she was rushed to the E.R.. I was just talking to my sister last week about her and she told me she does'nt know the year, can't remember family members names and so on. Her mother just called me to see if I could help her out with the POA, she said that she already had the papers from the attorney. I felt horrible, but I asked, just like I would anyone," Is Jane(fictious) of sound mind?" She said "NO" I told her that I was sorry but I couldnt do this for her. She asked me how she was going to get this done, I told her to talk to her attorney. I am pretty sure I did the right thing about sending the mom back to her attorney. Right??? What would you have done diffrently?

Here in Tx, if there is a POA when it becomes necessary, great.
If there is not one when the person becomes of unsound mind then they have to go through a temporary guardianship estate proceedings. A POA is easily done by printing it off the internet and hiring a notary. A guardianship usually take $1500-$2500 to get the attorney started on it.
That's why people get mad at us when they cannot get us to notarize.
