OT: My computer died so I am on my lapttop until the
new one comes... my laptop has XP and had 2000 on the desktop....and know how to do all but on XP I cannot find where to turn off automatic updates and so tired of it wanting to reboot all the time as it changes something...

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Automatic Updates....select your option.
