How can I pay you if I haven't been paid?...WHAT!
Here's how you do it. You open your check book and write a check using your start up capital. What? You don't have start up capital? Why the heck did you start a business without any money? Are you a complete imbecile?
This scenario is pathetic.

When I had staff, other than my husband and I, and before I fired their lazy butts, I always paid them FIRST!!!

Guess that one goes straight to collections.lol I had to tap into business lines of credit this year because business is so bad, a good company should have them in order to pay A/R in tough times.
You did your part, now you want to be paid.. understandable. For me its 30 days max when I cash flow is down.

Some signing services get their "start up" capital by asking notaries to pay to be listed with them - then they find out they can't pay the notaries on time.
No matter what business you are going into you need to have capital! I could close my doors tomorrow and sleep well knowing my signing agents are paid.

Thank you Sylvia. When I had 10 employees, they got their paychecks on the 15th & last day of the month - Every Month no matter what. If I did not pay them, they had the right to call the Dept of Labor and report me. That is the law. Since we are NOT their employees, this is how they can get around this.

Re: I worked my whole first year in this business
with no payment issues - it seems this week all I've done is chase companies that are 60+ days overdue...yeesh!!

Re: The other part is
the question: Is my signing the only one you've hired out? Fine, you haven't been paid for this one, but you're also telling me that you haven't made any profit on any others that you could use to actually PAY YOUR OBLIGATIONS until payment for this one is received?
Even without start-up capital, the notaries should be paid out of the general funds, not necessarily the per job funds.

Re: The other part is
I do not do signing companies anymore for exactly this reason. I do cash notaries for people that walk into my office and those that call me from the web. As A Realtor I became a Notary to meet people and I am doing that.
