New Years' Eve, Brooks and Dunn... all was great until

the moment my cell phone fell into my drink! Darn it, have to go to Radio Shack shortly for a new phone. Any suggestions? I have Cingular. Let me just say to all the old cats out there, you'll nver feel older than the moment you stand up proudly and flick your Bic for an encore just to then see thousands of cell phones light up the room. It really didn't seem appropriate to yell that I killed my cell phone moments earlier.

1st of all, I wouldn't go to Radio Shack! Try to get a deal with your current carrier or pick up something on eBay. I have a Verizon Treo 650, got it a few months ago, and like it very much. It is a combo palmpilot/phone/planner/taskmanager/camcorder/camera/email + websurfing whatchamacallit, has dozens of other applications that I can't think of right now, but most importantly, it can actually fit into your pocket.

eBay? Would you really be without a cell phone in the time it would take to win an auction on ebay and have it delivered? I think a week's worth of lost signings will more than offset the $50 or $100 you might save.

Just walked out of Radio Shack and received a signing

I agreed that I could not do ebay and receive signings telepathically for the next day or two...come on, I'm too old for that. What I did do was purchase a $20 motorola prepaid phone without bells and whistles, changed out the SIM card and good to go. It does light up when the lights are out so I'm ready for the next concert also. Thanks for the help, when I can upgrade in August I'll look into those other deallys.

BUT

Anybody who flicks a bic for an encore is WAY TOO OLD for a Treo

Treo.

Hmmmphfff.

My birthday is coming up as well as my cell contract.....is this a Verizon phone?
Is the internet broadband an add on or part of the cell bill as minutes?

I am thinking of doing both, Gary. There's no fool like an old fool, LOL

Re: Anybody who flicks a bic for an encore is WAY TOO OLD for a

I stuck with Verizon because I am in another year's worth of contract with them, however, DO NOT get the data plan with them. They charge $44 per month, whereas cingular only charges $5 for the same plan???!! But, their phone coverage in my area (Northeastern US) is great, so I kept their plan for another year.
BTW, I'm only 36, way too YOUNG to be lighting a lighter for an encore...

Cingular

For the smartphones Cingular charges $19.99 starting for a 5 MB data plan. It ranges all the way up to $39.99. I don't understand why it's sooo much more expensive on the smartphones. To me it shouldn't make a difference.

Still debating on wether or not to keep Cingular. I have 30 days left to change my mind. Our contract is up in Feb, but they gave us an awesome deal on 3 phones. What they didn't tell me was that to use the GPS feature, I had to buy some attachment that's $100 and pay $9.99 per month.

Verizon Treo data plan...

I'm with Verizon, and they have the least worst coverage in my area so there's really no other way...

Yep it's pricey... here's the deal...

Data is $44 but if you get the bigger voice plan the data goes down to $30...

I was using 900 minutes and went over just a tad just once (if I go over I up the plan cause 1 month at $200 is more than $10/ month for too many minutes, learned that one the hardway)...

So the super duper voice and data plan is $109 ($79 for voice $30 for data) that gives you 1350 anytime minutes, nights (late night by the way 9pm-6am) weekends and Verizon cells unlimited. Unlimited long distance.

Add $15 for the feature to be able to tether it to your laptop

Add $ 5 to insure the damn thing

$130 / month before my 411 calls... but less of those now cause if I can stop I can get the number off the web browser.... still learning to surf and drive, but not too good at it yet.

It's a piece of change, but I do another line of work where the orders come in email, not phone calls and if I don't respond in an hour or so they assign the work to someone else... so it's paying for itself that way... and being able to get on line anywhere... when I get a printer and go truly mobile, this will be a big part of that.

The gizmo itself cost me $299 with $100 rebate coming... and another $100 of all the crap you buy when you buy a new phone... I'm loving the bluetooth headset...

The only difference between men and boys...
