Be PROUD to be an AMERICAN. Fly your flag on the 4th!!

The link below shows a picture of my very own home. I am proudly flying historical and current versions of the American Flag. Here is a little history lesson on all of these flags from right to left.

The Grand Union Flag (exteme right)
This has been generally regarded as the true "first flag" of our fledgling nation. It consists of a field of thirteen stripes, just as our flag today has, combined with the King's Colors flag. It served as the flag of the Revolution until it was replaced by the Stars and Stripes in a declaration of the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

Betsy Ross (second from right)
The "Betsy Ross" flag became the first flag of the United States of America on June 14, 1777.

Bennington 76 (third from right)
The original Bennington Flag is unique in that it is still in existence today at the Bennington Museum in Vermont. Tradition holds that the flag was present at the Battle of Bennington, however, it is more likely that the flag was the creation of Nathaniel Fillmore, who presented the flag to his nephew, Septa Fillmore during the War of 1812. Being a veteran of the American Revolution, the addition of the "76" in the canton would be viewed as a patriotic reminder of our previous struggle against the British.

The Star Spangled Banner (extreme left)
50-Star Flag: Executive Order of President Eisenhower dated August 21, 1959 - provided for the arrangement of the stars in nine rows of stars staggered horizon tally and eleven rows of stars staggered vertically. This is the current flag of the United States. Hawaii was admitted as the 50th state on August 21st, 1959. The 27th flag of the United States became the official flag on July 4th, 1960. Nine presidents have served under this flag.

BE PROUD TO BE AMERICAN! FLY THE FLAG THAT REPRESENTS YOUR INDEPENDENCE AND THE LIVE'S OF ALL THOSE LOST SO THAT YOU COULD BE FREE!

Thank you, my rant is now complete.
