There seems to be a new trend when Posting on this Forum.

Many people seem to be putting their Web Site address at or near the end of their Posts. Wouldn't that constitute advertising, which Harry has wisely outlawed? Are people really just trying to get more links to their Sites?

I wonder about that too, Ernest.

It doesn't do a bit of good search engine-wise if it is not stated with http:// at the front of it. For instance, www.notaryrotary.com vs. http://www.notaryrotary.com. See the difference?

That was recommended by at least one member as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tactic. However, we have excluded the forum from indexing by Google and others because we don't want them thrashing our database by crawling 200,000 posts, so it will do those members no good from an SEO standpoint.

If I remember correctly, outbound links are even stripped from the posts in the archive, which are a series of static pages that we release specifically for Google, Yahoo!, MSN, et. al. Because those pages are static, crawling them really doesn't impact system performance. Since they lack outbound links, they will not help the members who continue to do this, either.

And, yes, I believe the links constitute advertising. It's been stated numerous times before: that's what profiles are for.
