Moving to Virginia

Any help will be greatly appreciated. We are thinking about moving to Virginia. I am currently a mobile notary in Alabama. Is anyone here in Va? It seems there is a special law requiring notary to have an escrow license if one time they handle money at closing. Does this mean you can do it as long as you ask if funds will need to be collected first and only perform the ones that say no? I need to know I will have a source of income before I decide. How hard is it to get an escrow licesce? A ton of questions, thanks for any replies.

That's essentially correct. Google for CRESPA Cerification. Some Notaries have it, and some don't. To my knowledge, no one is offering to pay more for it.
What part of Virginia are you thinking about?

You must be CRESPA certified in order to handle funds to or from the borrower in Virginia. Other than that, there are no other special requirements except being a currently commissioned notary. On the rare occasions where the borrower must provide funds, either they wire the funds, or the borrower must send the certified check back himself via FedEx or UPS. I carry extra airbills and mailer envelopes in case this comes up, and I will fill out the airbill with the TC address and account number for the borrower. I also put the TC file # and borrower name in the reference area.

Thanks for the info. We are thinking about the Richmond area since my family is there. But I have gotten used to country living so I'm not sure I want interstate all the time. Thanks again.
