WA notaries - Full House of Reps to vote on ID card

The ID card bill HB 1887 is being sent to the House for a vote by all representatives. The general vote will probably take place next week.

If you haven't yet sent a "Vote Yes" email to your district's Representatives, please do so in the next few days. Email addresses are below. I will telephone each Representative for every district in the next two days.

If passed, HB 1887 will allow our state's elderly to renew their ID cards by mail or internet once they reach age 70. This means even the homebound can have current ID cards. With Reverse Mortgage signings on the rise, we notaries will be working with the elderly more and more. If they don't have unexpired ID, we can't notarize.

I'd vote no...this could be a perfect opportunity for you to

make more money. If they're homebound, maybe the state can hire you to drive around to these homebound elderly and notarize their applications so they don't have to leave the house. KIDDING!!

Thanks for your kind words.

It has been very exciting to see this bill move through the House. The alacrity with which the legislators are attending to it tells me they really understand the current problem the homebound have maintaining current ID.

If HB 1887 passes, it will be a huge help to our state's elderly.
And a huge help to WA's notaries.

I will be spending Friday morning calling every single Representative to urge a Yes vote. Their assistants will be answering the phones. All I need to do is leave a message. So it shouldn't take long to work through the entire list. The assistants just show the Reps the yes/no tally at the end of the day.

Please send emails or call. It really makes a difference.
