Harry Please, I HATE PMs and want to disable the feature.

I already have four email boxes that I monitor and don't wish to deal with another. I link to my profile for a reason and if anyone wants to email me they may do so. If you want your email read and not trashed, put your handle and NotRot in the subject line.

I HATE PMs!

I personally like the feature - would't like to see it disabled. If it bothers you Becca, just don't open them...ignore the inbox...although it may no longer be an issue 'cuz I think you just got your point across..<G>

Re: Harry Please, I HATE PMs and want to disable the feature

Maybe Harry & Co. can add an option to forward the PMs to your registered email. They already have a notify feature, so they know who you are, know where you are, and know that you have a message - can't be much of a leap to just send you the message...

Re: Harry Please, I Agree!

I, for one, don't understand the use of the PM. People SEEM to use it to hide
info on companies that is bad (or good)! I think that info should be out
where anyone can read it. If you send info by "private mail" then the main
purpose of this forum is thwarted. This info, good and bad, should be out there
for any and everyone. I don't post a lot, but I do read. If I have info on a
company, and someone asks about that company, I see no reason not to include
info that everyone can use. ZZY SS doesn't pay? (Not to be confused with NNA)
Why should only the personasking about it get the info confirming that fact.
Everyone should have it. Got a new receipe that was good? Fine, send it by PM.
You have a dispute with a company that you think may be resolved, and you don't
want the company to know you are bad mouthing them? Fine! Keep, quiet until you
get it resolved to your satisfaction and then let everyone know. Think someone is
going out of business owing hundreds of Notaries, let us know, or say nothing until
it's resolved, or HIDE YOUR ADDRESS!

Private Messages will play a larger role in future features. At this time, I'm not going to elaborate on what those will be. However, we'll consider adding the ability to turn messaging functionality off on an individual basis.

Thanks for addressing this issue, Harry.

I think what I dislike most about the PM is the anonymity. I have no idea who is sending me a PM if the message comes over with the authors real name.

I have been visiting other industry forums lately that require everyone to be logged in to read and to post. I have to say, I kinda like that. If I want to send a message off board to a member, I can click on their profile, click on their email address and send an email from the site. The recipient will know that the email came to them via the board and they can view the profile of the member it came from.

Sounds simple to me. Wink I know, I know, I have no idea how these things work and I'm sure it is not an easy task. Maybe once the whole "picture" is finished, it will work well, but right now, I don't like it one bit.

FWIW Smile

I disabled notification of PM's. So I don't know there are any there, so I don't have to read them unless I specifically check my PM box, which I rarely do.
I prefer people post to me on the board if they have anything to say.

Another thing I don't like...since Harry is the wish granter

I don't like it when people try to really "jerk my chain" here and hide behind their name without a link to their profile. I want to know the devil I am dealing with.

Ditto, Loretta! And I dislike when all of a sudden

someone PM's me in a rude manner about something said 3 mos. ago that now all of a sudden impacts them and they are indignantly speaking to me about it. Some haven't even the sense to ref. properly nor introduce themselves - just, "hey, I'm mad about..."

Don't Get Your Hopes Up...

...with this request. I've made that suggestion many times over during the past few years on this board. My entreaties in this area have historically been shouted down by a vocal few & never come close to being considered.

Simple Solution,

If you don't like the pm feature, just don't click on the icon. I don't understand the problem ........
