Lets hope September goes better for all of us

I know I am asking alot, just hope a fair amount comes in while looking for a full time job. It is going to be tough taking orders from someone else again..

I hope it's going to be better for me. My husband has a job interview tomorrow with a company paying anywhere from $28-$45 per hour depending on where they send him to work. We both worked in the title field for over 11 years but it's time he started working a regular 40 hour a week job. The signing business has dropped by 1/2.

Re: Lets hope September goes better for all of us...and yet

My sister-in-law told me today that a friend of hers was asking exactly what it is I do - she's a real estate agent and, with the slow-down in the market, she's looking to supplement her REAL ESTATE AGENT income and might be interested in doing this....DUH!!

Even when it's slow

Even when it's slow, I don't know how you can do this part time with another job. The phone could ring anywhere between 7:00 am to 7:00 pm with a job "right now" or for the other half of the day. If I were working for a boss, how am I supposed to pick up the phone and work out the details? You can't just "do this in the afternoon" or "on Wednesdays". To me, this job is like having a toddler. You never really clock out. You could be summoned at any moment. I could take a job for "Wednesday", and then get it bumped over to Thursday. I almost missed my daughter's HS graduation becuase I was stupid enough to take a morning job. Email docs were late, and then the borrower read everything for two hours. I had plenty of time at 9:00 am, but by Noon, I had to be at the school.

Just letting off steam. Smile

Re: Even when it's slow

I agree about taking a part time job....I had to finally quit the measly part time job because the boss wouldn't let me leave a few times to take a closing where I would have made more in the one job than I made at the part time job in three days!

Like others I'm scaling back on expenses and leisure activities, not buying things I really don't need, and I'm doing fine. Not living high off the hog, that's for sure. But making it. Fortunately I have no one else depending on me for financial assistance. I'm 'careful' where I spend my money nowadays.

Re: Even when it's slow

I have had to scale back also with spending, for this is my sole income and I am on my own, I will see what takes place in the next few weeks, I started to look for p/t work, to bad, because I love this line of work that we do.. good luck to all

Re: Even when it's slow

i suppose everyone is different. i've always done this part time (boy am i glad now that i didn't quit my day job). i have my phone on silent mode and i can answer the calls. if the scheduler needs me at a time i'm working, i simply say that i'm booked for that time slot or that i'm booked until such and such a time. depending on the situation, i give them an alternative time. after all i'd have to do the same thing if i had another closing already scheduled which sometimes does happen. once the details are worked out i ask that they send the confirmation; i have efax; i check the details, then confirm w/the borrower and email my acceptance, problems, etc. back to the scheduler. i like to give each appt ample time and i've never had a conflict.

You would think a Realtor would know better.
