Shipping: Just in case any new people wonder ...
... why we tell you not to put _your name_ or the _borrower's name_ anywhere on the Air Bill, FedEx and UPS have a habit of attempting to charge the shipper extra fees if a package is overweight, isn't in the designated container, et cetera. On rare occasions a package will get returned to the shipper's address.
Put the name, phone number, and address of the company that hired you as the shipper. Address the package as directed.
Never, ever, pay for shipping back signed documents! You have trusted a company to pay you for your work. Don't lay out money on their behalf. You may never get paid.
The sole exception to the previous paragraph: When you've made a mistake. If you accidentally miss a signature, forget to seal a notarial block, et cetera, then you should send the corrected docs back on your dime. Count it as tuition for a lesson learned. The company will have respect for you as someone who did The Right Thing, and they will _probably_ call you for signings again. For extra points, send a note of apology with the corrected docs....

I don't....my name doesn't appear anywhere
on the airbill - have heard too many horror stories of chargebacks to the notary for a multitude of reasons so, in the spirit of mitigating my aggravation level, my name does not appear...

being, there are great advantages to being in honest in business, and it's those relationships that make my world go 'round.
I'm proud to send back my docs, and don't believe I'm naive in believing the receiving party will honor that cost.

I completely agree, Susan
In over 15 years of using USPS, FedEx, UPS, Airborne and DHL, I never have been erroneously charged for a package that was clearly marked "bill recipient" or "bill 3rd party". I do not hand write airbills, but use the software products available from the couriers. And, I always reaffirm the recipients account number before preparing the shipping label.

Same here. I can say this: anytime I have prepared an online airbill on account that is NOT in good standing (it's happened twice), it has been refused online by the carrier, and won't let me retreive/print the airbill. I've callled the company and received a secondary account number or courier account. Just my experience.

I also agree with PAW, Susan and you. It has never been a problem for me. UPS has, on a couple of rare occasions, billed me instead of the receiver but this was quickly corrected with a phone call to UPS.

I too agree with those that put their names on the shipping labels…and I’ve never had a problem. However I do not use drop boxes (unless an emergency) I take the package to a shipping ‘store’ and get a receipt, proving that I shipped something to the Title Company. I often reference the borrowers name someplace on the lable. I’d rather pay the cost of shipping than the damages that could be incurred by losing a package.

Re: I completely agree, Susan
I'm glad you guys have not had any issues with chargebacks. I try to learn from my mistakes the first time, and I did have a chargeback a couple of years ago because a title company decided to close its UPS account and use DHL for their packages. When I created the label on UPS.com with the account number provided to me, it went through with no problem. Two months later I got the chargeback plus $10 admin fee. What a huge pain in the rear it was to get reimbursed.
So now for me, it's only handwritten labels if I have have to provide the label. But actually, almost all the companies I deal with now-a-days provide a pre-printed label, which I love.

In Florida, we can not send "corrected docs". If we forget a seal, etc., the entire document must be notarized again. I know that many states do not have this requirement.

Agreeing with Robert/FL
My apologies for not making it clear: The ORIGINAL document must be returned to me, I fix the problem (what ever that means), and then I pay to return the document.
It always bears repeating: Never send a notarized blank ack or jurat "just in case". If you attach a general ack or jurat, always, always fill in the description of the accompanying document. Spell out the number of pages, e.g., "one" instead of "1".

In Fla. we can't even do that
Once the original document has been notarized and leaves our hands, we can not do anything to correct it. The entire process must be done again.
But again, this is probably Florida specific.

While I have never had any issues with any SS or TC, I have had issues with this very thing in another business I owned. While most of them were easy fixes I can remember a few of them that caused me issues with my own UPS account.
Nearly all the labels sent to me via email do have the shipper and receiver listed as the exact same address so anytime I have to fill in a shipping label I make both of them the same as well. No big deal and have never had any complaints from any SS or TC company.
