Tomorrow all be cautious on the roads

as this afternoon I overheard several college kids bragging about 04/20/2010 being what they call *national smoking weed day*

Last year on that day I was rear-ended by a *smoker* ...

Totally forgot about it being an annual repeat till today !

LOL. I looked it over and couldn't figure out how to get the water in it! Actually the originators of 420 lived about 3 miles from me in high school.

4:20 PM, every day, or at least every school day, at probably every HS in the US.

Remember the old slogan from Dow ??

"Better living through chemistry"

Raised on Dow paycheck...yes, I do!

I grew up in Dow's shadow in Freeport, Texas, literally. Saw a yellow cloud form and a siren go off more than once. My dad and grandfather worked there and both died of cancer. One of them of a type rarely seen except in cases of chemical exposure. Many of the old timers did.

Except for the occasional tic and hairy knuckles I seem to have escaped unscathed by the chlorine releases. Yessiree! Better living through chemistry. Cough, cough.

(But in all seriousness, Dow has provided outstanding salaries for average people for many, many years in the lowlands of Texas.)

That's great - outstanding salaries and lower life span. Nice trade off, yep, vedy, vedy nice.

Do we have to be technical here? Ruins Brenda's story

Dow Baby! LOL.

Will she have a (chemical) meltdown? What is her melting point? Can she mix her chemicals at one sitting? Does she emit strnge glows during a full moon?

OOO, Brenda: EMWTK!

Yeah, but he was close. So, what to do...Ah! Iron

Butterfly.

Oh far out! The Way-Back/Flash-Back Machine: 1968, on a 3-day layover in Hawaii. Jimi at HIC, then Iron Butterfly on the long, quiet beach. Slapping surf, and drummings, guitars and men's voices; Moon smiled in psychedelic clouds...

Over the years, every once in a while, a whiff of Pachouli wafts by...on the beach or soft cafe or a concert sidewalk somewhere. Always makes me smile. Plant chemistry. Then there's Pheromones: Life's chemistry.

Musical chemistry...and the Music never dies. YouTube so rocks.

So, groovy grapefruit, Chicago Bob. (Hey man, did you ever go to Mother Blues on New Year's Eve in the 60s or so? I have a great poster of my DearLittleOldGreyHairedGrandmother in the thick of the wholly risque affair.)

Wage Peace,
Susie

What is this? Sounds like a Laura V post? Perhaps a cloned Spirit Guide?

Aww, Les...buzzkill. Jimi as in Hendrix in concert at HIC =

"Hawaii International Center (HIC)", known today as the Blaisdell Center. 1968.

Iron Butterfly, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Side B, 17 minutes. On vinyl. Incredible drum solo.

Hawaiian beach = beach in Hawaii; music from car stereo.

Chemistry = chemistry to listen to psychedelic music with in 1968.

Can't see a commonality with that other post - sheesh.

The red Dow trademark diamond. I remember it was over my bassinet when I was born...in the Dow Hospital. Yeah, I remember that, too! NaNa

"Dow brings good things to life...maybe? "

GE - we bring good things to life.

Dupont's was " Better Things for Better Living Through Chemistry"

The slogan was used by others (maybe Dow?) as "Better Living Through Chemistry" to circumvent Dupont's trademark.

Okay...now I KNOW this one is one of Dow's 70s-80s slogans, "Life is Fragile. Handle with Care."
