BOND REQUIREMENT
Before a person can act as a notary, he/she must file
a $1,000.00 surety bond dated the same as the
notary commission, an oath of office, loyalty oath and
a $10.00 filing fee with the Office of the Secretary of
State. The notary bond must be signed by one or
more sureties and be approved by the Secretary of
State. It must be written for a term of four years
covering the same time period as the notary
commission. Blank bond forms are available through
the Office of the Secretary of State or a surety bond
may be purchased through an insurance or bonding
company.
Oklahoma Notary Law
- No notarial commission becomes effective until the following has been filed with the court clerk
in the county in which the notary resides or if a non-resident, the county employed:
- the commission;
- an oath of office;
- the official signature;
- an impression of the official seal;
- a bond in the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) approved by the court clerk; and
- a filing fee.
- The bond reflecting the commission number and oath of office shall be transmitted by the court
clerk to the Secretary of State for filing and recording.
