As you have probably heard, many real estate title companies are or will be requiring that notary signing agents submit to criminal background checks. This requirement is based on an interpretation of laws and guidelines pertaining to privacy and the confidentiality of customer information. The Financial Modernization Act or Graham-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (GLBA),
for example, requires safeguards to help protect the privacy of others.
Despite the fact that many notaries public have already submitted to intensive, state-commissioned background checks, certain industry players have been promulgating the need for third-party checks and expensive certifications. These actions have called into question the method and motive of the players,
along with the legitimacy and value of a large number of existing notary signing agent educational programs.
Still, because it appears the demand for third-party background checks is here to stay, Notary Rotary has been working in partnership with the National Verification Registry™ on an open, independent, Notary Public Background Check certification.
This certification program is now available at http://www.notarypublicbackgroundcheck.com and will be initially hosted by Notary Rotary.
Participation in this program is open to all qualifying notary signing agent listing services and educational providers.
The Notary Rotary web site has a very strong notary signing agent orientation. Most of the notaries listed in our notary directory are professional mobile notary public signing agents who specialize in loan signings. (Virtually everything you need to know to perform loan signing can be found in the SR Training Guide, pictured at left.)

- Notary Talk Discussion Forum
Visit our forum to discuss notarial topics, laws, past and present issues facing signing agents, the reputation of companies wanting to hire you and a whole lot more. Signing agent experts participate daily.
- Notary Talk Live Chat
Notary Talk Live! is a real-time chat environment for discussing issues privately or in groups. This option offers a more dynamic setting than the forum. To access Notary Talk Live!, you must sign on to your Premier Member account, click the Notary Talk tab, and then click the Go Live! button.
- Signing Central Work Orders System
The Signing Central Work Orders system is located under the Signing Central tab. Using this system, you can track your company relationships, track your signings, get driving directions, create invoices and collaborate with participating agencies, some of whom may be using the system to manage their scheduling operations.
- Signing Service and Title Company Listing with Notary Ratings
Also under the Signing Central tab is a list of signing services and title companies known to contract with notaries.
Many of the companies are rated from 1 to 5 stars. That rating represents the average opinion of the company it is matched to
by the notaries public on our site who have chosen to rate the company.
- 2009 Loan Rescission Calendar
The right of rescission is a borrower's right to rescind on certain loan transactions within 3 business days of the signing of the papers.
In other words, they are able to pull the plug on the deal if they discover something they don't like, as long as they do so by midnight of
the third day following the signing day (excluding certain holidays). The following calendar lists the rescission date correspdonding
to every day of the year.
- Coverage Analysis Tool
The Coverage Analysis Tool is available in The Library after signing on. This powerful tool will list ZIP codes, cities and counties in your area along with your estimated signing fee, provided you have completed a fee profile.
