"How bad do you want to work" is the key.

If you have nothing happening, take it. Only make sense...if you have a full day and booked up, of course not. Many of mine have been same day closings the past 2 months, not sure why...the problem that gets me is they say "ASAP" and I say "sure", call and confirm with borrower ( thinking docs are ready)...then the docs are NOT ready and sit and play that waiting game, sometimes coming to the point of making the FED Ex drop...
There is way too many NSA's here that will do it for less here, and I just am happy they call me and can depend on me.I would never charge a rush fee, but I will charge an after hours fee if they call me at 8:00 PM and want it done that night, so then my price does go up. Times have changed from the past where we really held the cards. If you are new, which since you are mentoring you seem to be, you shouldn't charge that fee. If your MIL has been in this business for the duration and really has no competition, she can do what she likes, but unfortunately my advice is that you shouldn't. Good luck!
