"Now is the time to shift: starting January 14, 2020, security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7 will no longer be provided. Extended support for Office 2010 will end on October 13, 2020."

You should have no problem continuing to use your Windows 7 for quite sometime even thou you will not receive updates. I stayed with Windows Vista for many many years after they stopped supporting it because the computer ran perfectly. I have the philosophy "if is ain't broke don't fix it." I jumped from Windows Vista to Windows 10. The computer that had Vista died a natural death. I also stayed with Office 2000 on the Vista computer. What I found with Office over the years is that you can create a Word or Excel doc in a old Office version, the newer version will open it with no problem. The only draw back is you can not open the newer version if you have an older Office IF they change the Word & Excel extensions like they did several years ago from doc to docx..etc . The nice thing that Office does is allow you to save a Word or Excel doc in a the older version still today. All you have to do is "Save As", Word 97-2003. This comes in handy if you are dealing with a client that never did upgrade Office or still has an old Word or Excel document created several years ago. This also allows you to still open your old saved document too. Also, as others have said Googles Open Doc work nicely too. I use Open Office on my tablet. I like the interface with Window Office better but it isn't a deal breaker, both work. Thanks for the info that Windows 7 and Office 2010 will discontinue support in 2020 :-)
