Seems like mistakes to go around.
"South Carolina doesn’t require training to be a notary. It’s simply a $25 fee and proof you’re a registered voter in South Carolina.

So my take the notary doesn't know what a witness is or the signer doesn't have the common sense to know what a witness is.
Good lord...no brains for either one of them. It also seems to me and they also pointed out, that Wills should be state specific and handled by an attorney. The "Do it yourself" kits are just that, a crap shoot to save a few bucks, and now look what happened and playing the blame game.
I agree...if you want documents notarized properly with basic instructions of what and where to sign, they need to use an NSA as we are trained in documents for their state and witness requirements and pay for our expertise.
If they want "just a notary" this is what you get, someone to verify your signature wherever they chose to sign it and give you a stamp. It's their document, the UPS worker could care less. Who knows the dynamics of what really went down if someone was rude or having a bad dad on either side.
Very interesting, and I do not believe it's really the notary's fault, although pretty stupid not to say anything to the woman if he was aware. |
