When you are constantly dealing with low-ballers who have no concept what "business relationship" means, it can be an effective way of forcing their hand. Yes, they can keep calling around and waiting for some shmuck to take their ridiculous offer...but in the meantime, if they can't find such a person, it's going to cost them for being such tightwads.
"Greenville is more than an hour from me. I am available to close this loan at 2:00 tomorrow, but my fee would be $XXX, assuming printing 2 copies of a doc package of 120 pages or less. Other Terms & Conditions apply. See attached.
This rate quote is good for 30 minutes. After that, my fee is $XXX + $20.
