Two valid government-issued photo IDs could come in handy in a few scenarios, in addition to the obvious one of loosing one's purse or wallet.

1. You are replacing your driver license, and they take your old one and issue a temporary one until the normal license arrives in the phone. The temporary one might not be accepted for some purposes, like notarizations or plane travel.

2. You send in your passport for renewal; your enhanced driver license will allow you to visit several nearby countries by land or sea without the passport.

3. You have somewhat different versions of your name on your two IDs.
