I don't do cross-outs on a notary cert because of what the recipient will say but because of what they might do. IMO, in some circumstances, leaving the pronouns unspecified opens the door to potential fraud. Over the many years this forum has been around, we've heard stories of names being added to a certificate and who knows what else. Maybe things aren't has crazy as they used to be in title co and loan processor offices, but back in the day, we heard enough tales of certificate tampering for me to want to be as careful as I can be.

After all, a sample completed certificate shown in our Handbook (see PDF page 17) has pronouns crossed out, and I just think it's a good 'best practice'. If the purpose of the cert is to accurately describe the notarial act that took place - and I think it is - then taking that additional step makes it more clear and removes one potential opportunity for people to mess with our certificates.
