Good analogy about the POS debit (can never settle my "records" with the funds reappearing!). We would refer to it as "batching"or batch processing for banking transactions & stmts. How I lasted in banking I'll never know; I hate balancing anything! And got way spoiled daily checking automated systems as an "employee."
