That's the image that comes to my mind, too, as I've stated here before. I believe that's why those behind the web-cam phenomenon are promoting it so hard. And they seem to be very patient, taking the long view. So it may be years yet before we see it, but if they're successful in selling this concept, I think they hope to be able to attract a huge percent of the total notary marketshare - not just loan signing.
IMO, the time to be thinking about this and putting contingency plans in place is years in advance, not months, when there's not enough time to replace our notary income. If it never happens, great. But who wants to risk being left in the lurch, especially those of us who are 'of a certain age', when it's much more difficult to find a J.O.B.. with decent pay. [Who wants to go back to having a boss anyway, if you can help it?  ]
Not trying to be an alarmist, but I have many strong recollections from the days after the mortgage meltdown of numerous people posting here about how desperate they were to find notary work and/or a day job.
