So I asked a simple question about state-issued identification cards which state they are not a license to drive. I appreciate all the comments, even those that intimated that I was proposing Hitler-like actions.

I often meet people who are selling vehicles. Although the red non-driver card is valid ID for notary purposes, seeing the person who presents it to me get out of the driver seat to work with me has been a concern. In answer to VT, why would they present a non-driver license as they exit the vehicle if they had both types of ID? More likely question is, why do they not qualify for a driver license?

Oftentimes it’s because they have DUI convictions. Because of that, I think about the accident they may cause which might kill or maim a family member. If they’re not lawfully driving, do they have insurance? Will they take responsibility for the injuries, both physical and property, they may create? Do I, or any responsible person, want to encounter that law breaker in those circumstances?

The laws are there for a purpose. If we don’t defend the “small” laws—running red lights, jaywalking, illegally driving, why do we believe the big laws should be followed? I believe I am my brother’s keeper, so I will take on the potential ramifications in order to try to protect them. If I see something, I say something to try to keep the society functioning. I believe in helping the authorities do their job to keep us safe. And no, I've yet to follow up, but I am asking the authorities what they would like to have me do in future situations.
