Vetting, we've come a long way, baby, but still

There are many signing service owners out there who've raised their ugly nonpaying heads/practices now that the biz has picked up a little.

Who is vetted in this entire loan applicatoin process....

Appraisers
Loan Officers/Lenders
Loan Processors
Title&Escrow
Notaries/NSAs
BORROWERS

But not signing service owners, especially those who are not notaries themselves. We clearly do not have a level playing field here.

Since this category is not vetted, and individuals/companies are still able to get escrow/title to give them work, we must do our own vetting as there is strong likelihood we'll not get paid for our work, ever.

There is a website that the public affairs office of the FBI gave me to vet people like this.

For a small fee you can pull up any Federal criminal report on any individual who has been prosecuted for a Federal crime. I found one just the other day online.

pacer.gov, follow the instructions on how to research someone you may suspect has a federal criminal background.

Once someone has been convicted of a Federal crime, it is almost impossible to secure a "real job", hence this preponderance of people in our business with criminal backgrounds.
