So I was at an office where the signature page was floating around where the signer signed, in nice penmanship btw, F*** You on the signature line. This was actually notarized and recorded, however it was later unacceptable to the lender.
So I poked around to find out What's In A Signature anyway. I found an interesting podcast on NPR's Planet Money and various other articles that summarizes a signature as a simple form of ID. Early "rules" to signatures say that among other things that scribbles are prohibited. Fast forward to today and, I for one, use scribbles (or rather chicken scratch) as my signature. Even using Square or others I make pictures, smiley faces, or other doodles as I see fit.
