The baking job solution worked until yesterday i.e. for a year and a half. Once again with nothing to lose, baked it again at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Lo and behold, the printer is working again. This was not my idea but rather a search done on internet. Something about the original soldering of the formatter not being done correctly in some of the HP LaserJet models. But there is a certain procedure to follow. Sounds wacky, but it works!
