I was in the restroom of a store one day when I overheard the woman in the next stall discussing a refi with a client over the phone. Ok, quick, I thought, how can I do business with her. I thought I might say as she walked out, still on the phone, "Excuse me, ma'am, when you finish with your phone call, I'd like to talk to you." I waited until I could fly out the door. She was nowhere in sight. I asked the man sitting on a bench if he had seen her. He said yes. I asked what she was wearing. He said, "Oh, you are in Loss Control."
Yeah, my loss. I never found her.
Another story. I used to have a flyer on the back car window about my work and with my phone number. It tore one day and I hadn't replaced it because I needed to clean the tape residue from the window. In the meantime, I began to realize, since our local traffic has increased so much, how many times I am nearly cut off on the road or I go through an intersection realizing that the light turned yellow just before I got through it. How many times would someone see my sign on my car and realize they had seen such incidents with this car before? Do I really want someone to call me while I am driving?
The other day, when I was visiting the big city, I saw a car go by with "Notary Public" and a phone number on a sign on the door. I said the number out loud several times as I pulled over. I called to ask if the notary thought it was good advertising and if they ever have to refer anyone in my town. It was the wrong number. Oh, well.
I guess I am always working. |
